What’s A Trivia Junkie To Do?

I have Tuesday  off at work, and am thinking  of  trying to “escape” for a trivia  night on Monday  night. I share ownership of one car with my husband, so  taking  the  car, if I’m  not  driving  it  to  work, sometimes  requires…”negotiating.”

I don’t  want to  go   “out  of  town”  on a weeknight, and  Monday  trivia options in my ‘hood are pretty much limited  to…one spot. Maiz used  to  serve  up trivia on Mondays, but stopped  several  months  ago. A few  years ago, Aubree’s (Whittaker) also offered  trivia for a short time. Nowadays, Powell’s Pub is pretty much  the only option. And  I’m  not  sure I’m excited  about playing  there  again – especially  by  myself. I stopped  doing  solo  games there a couple of years ago when one of the players  spoke inappropriately  to me (coward  as he was he did it via a Facebook  comment, not even  in  person). Though  he has been inappropriate to me in person, too.

A guy  can go out  for solo trivia nights without  so much as anyone else batting an eye. I have been questioned  about  it by nosy male trivia hosts, have  had guys “glom” onto me – uninvited  during  trivia games and have endured  drunken guys spewing inappropriate  language. One of these  guys  wound  up being  shown the  door by a bar manager.

I’m  not whining  about any  of this. Overall, my experiences  going  out  and playing solo  games have been positive. I had a  good time last Saturday  at Oscar’s   (Mike, another trivia “soloist,” has always  treated  me with  respect and I’ve  known him for years). A few weeks ago, I had  a nice time at Bobby  McShane’s, when I showed up to sit in on a semifinal  game. A fellow  “soloist” there  I’d  known for years  has always treated  me respectfully. I shall never forget that game, where  we wound up teaming  up in a “virtual” way (had we played  as a team we might have kicked some real ass). I’ve  always said that on trivia  teams, opposites  attract. That’s  why Kim and I team up  so well together! She and I couldn’t  be  more “yin” and “yang.”

I don’t know  what  I’ll  feel like doing Monday night. Might  be a game time decision! I am pushing more to play Thursday night  anyway…!
