I learned last night that a 36-year-old woman named Maria Sebald had died. I did not know her well, but had a passing acquaintance with her because she played on a trivia team called This is Sparta at Original Gravity Brewing Co. Thursday nights. One thing I knew about her – if she didn’t attend a trivia game – the rest of her team was going to have a rough go of it!

Though I didn’t really know her, I’m still saddened by news of her death. We shared a bit of an “unspoken bond,” if you will, since we were both the sole females on our respective trivia teams. Once, when we bumped into each other in the women’s bathroom, she said to me, “How are you doing on that question set?” I said, “It was a tough one – especially that mystery round.”

Another player on that trivia team – Doug – said to me that the last time he saw her alive was at her home – where he was watching a MSU football game with her and her husband, Kyle.

No obituary has been written as of yet, but here is a link to information about an upcoming memorial service.
