The “just for fun” trivia nights continued Thursday at Original Gravity Brewing Company. I had some prize money to spend from last week, so I went out to see how I’d do! I didn’t sign in with my team’s league number, but finished with 76 points for the night, which, as awful as that number sounds (it really is awful…there is no sugar coating THAT fact), it still would have been a #2 finish for the night (IKR)? Both games featured particularly brutal questions…NO teams at our bar got the final right in game one – and nearly all of the teams wagered at least SOMETHING on it! I wagered 20 points on it, which knocked me down to 22 points going into game two (ouch)! Game two was much, much worse for me – 34 points heading into the final (which I also wagered 20 points on)! I don’t want to give TOO much information away, read on to find out more about this trivia night!

I took a wrong turn on a roundabout on the way to the game! I knew something was up when I passed by Judd Road…I thought to myself, “Hmm, I don’t usually pass by Judd Road on this drive.” Nonetheless, I know the roads in the area pretty well, so I proceeded with my “alternate route.” I continued heading south on Whittaker (I usually take Stony Creek) and took a right on Willow Road. Which meant I got to see the beginnings of a lovely sunset. All of that said, though, maybe taking that wrong turn on the roundabout was a sign that I shouldn’t have involved my brain in trivial pursuits that night (LOL)!
Game One
1. TV Dramas – In addition to the title character, what TV drama series airing from 1998 to 2003 featured characters named Joey, Jen and Pacey? Miss for 2.
2. Literary Settings – The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, and The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn among other stories by Mark Twain were all primarily set in what U.S. state? For an extra “nerd” bonus point, in which state did Mark Twain die? Got for 10, close but no cigar on the bonus point…

Mark Twain’s birthplace
3. Board Games – What board game features a playing field involving placing marbles on a hexagon shape? 9
4.. Cool Places – Uluru is a UNESCO World Heritage Site located on which of the seven continents? Miss for 4.
5. 2000s Movies – Audio clip from a 2006 film starring Will Ferrell that I didn’t recognize. Miss for 3.
6. Folk Songs – What is the title of the folk song that includes the lyrics “Someone’s in the kitchen with Dinah?” Miss for 7. Yeah, you can see it’s all going downhill from here!
7. Mythology – Who was the first human woman created by the gods in Greek mythology? Miss for 5.
8. Sauces – What sauce, primarily used with seafood, is made with mayonnaise, pickles, capers, onions and parsley? 8
9. Sports – What organization’s 2018 events included the Bank of Hope Founder’s Cup and the Kia Classic, among other events? Miss for 1.
10. Slogans – What deodorant brand’s slogans have include “Smell ’em who’s boss,” “Make a Smellmintment,” and “Smellcome to manhood?” Had one answer written down, crossed it off and put down another one. Which was a good thing! Got this for 6.
Mystery – What movie am I? Progressive, points assigned based on which clue you knew the answer (these are always death…)
1. I am based on a 1990 book and me and my three sequels have grossed $2.9 billion worldwide
2. My title role was initially offered to Nicolas Cage, but he turned it down because he didn’t like the way the character would be portrayed
3. I won the first Academy Award for best animated feature
4. I feature a green title character
Got it for sure on clue #3, but I did think about this movie based on clue #1, just wasn’t confident enough about the “book” part of the clue.
Scores: Ten teams, scores 14 to 52, with Big Heads Big Hearts in first. I was in fifth playing under the name Wrong Turn at Albuquerque (I took a wrong turn on a roundabout on my drive out, which turned out to be a blessing in disguise…)

Bugs Bunny, about to get bullboozled…
Final category – Commercials
What website aired a series of commercials beginning in 2007 that took place in a pirate-themed restaurant, at a Renaissance fair, on a roller coaster, and at a country bar in Reno, among other settings?
Nope….
Final standings: Rough Riders, 28; BHBH, 48.
Game Two
1. Hit Songs – Believe and Dark Lady (among other songs I didn’t write down) are among the most recent #1 songs on the Billboard Hot 100 charts for what artist? 4

3. Schools – The U.S. Air Force Academy is located in which U.S. state? Miss for 2.
4. U.S. Geography – Not including Arizona, what is the closest U.S. state to Colorado that does not border Colorado? I really worked hard on this one…even drew a crude map! And I got it for 6 (and considering how downhill the rest of the game will go, this means I probably expended too much of my brainpower on this question)!
5. Books – Kids Are Punny, Find Me and Celebrity Detox are among the books written by what actress, TV personality and comedian? Miss for 5.
6. Coaches – In addition to Indiana, name one of the two other Div. 1 schools for which Bobby Knight served as head coach. Name both for a “nerd” bonus point. Nope and nope for 1.
7. Video Games – Ocarina of Time and Majora’s Mask are both Legend of Zelda games released for what video game console? Miss for 7.
8. Math – With the first terms being zero and 1, what is the 10th term in the Finobacci sequence? This is clearly a topic you are either going to be all “a-ha, I know this,” or you will just make your best “duh” face. Guess which category I fell into? Miss for 8.
9. Kids’ TV – Name any of the actors playing Huey, Dewey and Louie on the recent release of Duck Tales on Disney XD. Facebook clue, thankfully I remembered one of these guy’s last names, got this for a precious 10 points.
10. Cities – What Virginia city was named for a king and was the first permanent English settlement in the New World? 9
Visual Mystery –

Missed all of these. Teammates would have helped here…
Scores – Nine teams, scores 34 (yo that was my score) to 54 with BHBH in first.
Final category – Titles and Authors
In the preface to a 1973 novel that spent over a year on the best-sellers list, what author notes that the title of the book is “not intended to indicate an association with or sponsorship by General Mills”?
The answer didn’t come to me right away, and even then I wasn’t 100 percent sure I had the right person…but I did! I crossed my fingers and hoped that enough teams would miss it to put me in the “prize zone,” but alas, that was not to be…(still kind of a moral victory after being in last).
Game winners: Downriver Rats, 64; BHBH, 74.
Unsure when our next trivia outing will be! Monday at Powell’s for sure, we have been on a two-week hiatus from those games due to cancellations. Not ruling out a possible weekend game, but not planning one, either. As always, Go Pods and stay classy, Bobby Knight!
