Editor’s Note: With the exception of some minor edits, this is the trivia recap from Sunday’s tournament game that appeared on my trivia team’s Facebook page.
A friend who played in a different division’s championship game on Sunday is currently in the process of sending the me the questions from her game! So I will (hopefully) have a recap of that game to post later on today! I may turn her into a “field correspondent” yet, LOL!
Well, the last Herculean labor of the Sporcle Live spring/summer season has been completed! Let’s see, we killed the lion, the hydra and some birds; captured a deer, boar and bull; cleaned the Aegean stables, and snagged some horses, cows, and a Cerberus and we also did a panty raid! Does all of this sound like some kind of crazy fraternity hazing ritual? Maybe something out of Porky’s? Well, our last “labor” was to play in the league championship Sunday, and though we screwed up way too many questions for big points to appease the gods….and make it to the top five, we did… OK! To see a full list of scores heading into the final question (and final scores), click here.
Game 1
1. Video Games: What role playing game released in 1995 features a red spiky haired title character who communicates using facial expressions as well as characters named Marle, Frog, and Robo?
Miss for 2.
2. Lifetime Achievement: The Cecil B. DeMille Lifetime Award for Lifetime Achievement is awarded at the Golden Globes. In 1962, at age 39, who became both the youngest recipient as well as the first female winner of the award?
Got for 7 (I wanted to wager 10 but was overruled
). I knew exactly how old this person was when she made that one really big movie, and how old she was when she died…but this was not enough to convince my “you can have the points slip when you pry them out of my cold dead hand” husband…Sigh! And I am just being dramatic, just like this actress was in that movie that is getting another remake with Lady Gaga as the star this year! Are there no original movies anymore????
3. #1 Hits: What rap artist had two songs spend a total of 14 consecutive weeks at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2002? This includes a three week period where one song ranked at #1 and the other ranked at #2.
Big miss for 10. Though we did consider the right answer!
4. Civil War: Name the three Union states that sent at least 300,000 soldiers to the US Civil War, more than any other state.
We debated a bit here. But Brad pointed out the name of a pro sports team in one of the states we discussed (in particular why it has its name) and went with it. Got this for 4.
5. Business News: On July 26, 2018, what company was sued by its founder several weeks after he had resigned as chairman?
Dave demanded the big slip, got for 10.
6. Elements: Because of the diversity in colors of its salts, which element, atomic number 77, is named for the Greek goddess of the rainbow?
Big miss for 9. We certainly weren’t “tasting the rainbow” in this round, LOL! Now pardon me while I look off into the distance and sing “Over the Rainbow.” Did you know that song ALMOST didn’t make it into the film? IKR?

Dorothy dreams of living in a Technicolor world. Until she realizes it means enduring extremely hot temperatures – and pervy munchkins who try to cop a feel up her dress!
7. College Sports: As of 2018, there are three schools that have made the College Football Playoff only once and lost their only game. Name two of these three schools.
Got one but not both. Miss for 3.
8. Emmy Awards: Two shows, one on FX and the other on NatGeo, have had their second seasons nominated for the Emmy Award for Outstanding Limited Series. Name either of the real life people who were the subjects of these shows.
Figures we’d know an Emmy answer. Not confident, so only got for 1.
9. Islands: The Dodecanese, Cyclades, and Sporades are all island groups belonging to what country?
Got for 8.
10. Literary Settings: Yoknapatawpha County is a fictional Mississippi county was created by what 20th century author and serves as the setting for many of his novels and short stories?
Yay my lit degree helped with this one! 6

Game Two

Miss for 10. We were starting to feel like one of Trump’s cabinet members!

I heard a few teams missed this, but we got it for 7.

Miss for 6. Is there a vaccine for a shitty trivia game? ![]()

Miss for 1.
10. State Borders: What is the smallest US state by total area that borders four or more other US states?
I knew this one instantly for 5.
A miserable 80 total points going into the mystery round. Thankfully (SPOILERS AHEAD) we would gain some much needed points!
Mystery Round: Given two songs and a year, identify the movie that came out in the given year in which the musician who sang the two songs appeared. (Yeah…not the greatest description, but we did pretty well).
1. “Express Yourself,” “Frozen,” 1992.
2. “Miami,” “Switch,” 2016
3. “Not Afraid,” “Rap God,” 2002
4. “Rebel Rebel,” “Modern Love,” 2006
Teamwork prevailed here – me knowing movie release years, them knowing the songs, and Mike steering me to the correct 2016 movie! I love you guys (smooch)!

3. Last name of the quarterback who started both Super Bowl XLVIII and XLIX.
