Tonight we embark on an epic battle for…second place. We are hoping to move up from third to second place in the overall standings tonight at Original Gravity Brewing Co. After sitting for a few weeks in the dreaded #4 spot, we finally managed to move up to third place just last week.
Tonight’s lineup will be myself, Mike, Brad and Kim for sure – with Evan as a “maybe” (depending upon his work schedule).
Regardless of how tonight’s game turns out, we’ll have our “epic” battle next week, as we attempt to win a tournament spot for the Sunday, Aug. 5 league championship at CJ’s. I’m very happy we’ll be able to drive about 14 miles here for a tournament instead of 59 West, which was about 40 some-odd miles away. We drove to a tournament in East Lansing last December, which was about 60 miles away! Maybe this will be a “lucky” spot for us, since we managed to win a fourth place prize here in 2013.

The $200 prize may not have been much once it was all split up – but it meant a lot to us! From left to right – Mike, Alex, Dave, myself and Brad. Alex has since moved to Seattle, but the rest of us are still kickin’ around at local trivia games! Kickin’ ass when the stars are right!
We will have two other chances to qualify for finals if we don’t make it at OG next week the “barhop” route (which means winning a play-in game) – or playing another venue tourney at Oscar’s. But I don’t want to think about the “other” options! My goal is to win that game!
As for next season, it’s likely we’ll continue playing at OG, but we may not be here every week. We generally don’t play at OG during the winter months, so I will want to play here again this fall. The MTL games at Powell’s will also continue on Monday nights. Mike likes the cheap beer, we both like a nice close spot to home – and we’ve won there pretty easily for two seasons. The bar staff has really grown on us, too!
I’ll have a recap of tonight’s game posted on Friday. It’s very, very likely I’ll be out playing Saturday, since Brad and Mike intend to take over our living room that evening and binge-watch “Battlebots.” I don’t want to be around for THAT! A bunch of Roombas on steroids is what those things are! A Sunday trivia game may also be in the works, since we’ll have a niece visiting from out of town. But that will up to her…and her boyfriend! As always, stay tuned, and Go Pods!
