Facebook has informed me that six years ago today (May 5, 2012), my trivia team played in its first “semifinal” game! Here’s my original Facebook post, copied and pasted:
“My Corner Brewery trivia team the Miskatonic University Fighting Cephalopods is heading to a regional tournament since we finished in first place at our regular playing venue! Anyone wanting to cheer us on, we’ll be playing 8 p.m. Monday at the Arena. Go Pods! Also a shout out to second place Corn Fritters – a team that always kept us on our toes!
We didn’t finish among the top teams in this semifinal game, so we did not advance to the championship. And this bar is no longer called The Arena, it is now called Haymaker Public House, and is owned by the Sporcle Live trivia company! Since that time, my team has gotten a bit better at NOT failing in qualifying games, though that is not to say it doesn’t happen from time to time!
My how things have changed! I think teams were allowed to have six players at tournaments back then. Geez, I can hardly manage to field 4-5 for tournaments now! Six players would be a monumental task!
Nice little time capsule…
