Trivia Recap – Feb. 1, 2018 – Corner Brewery

Well, if we had to be bested by a final trivia question in our Sporcle Live game Wednesday at Arbor Brewing Company (Ypsilanti), at least it was a question involving a pirate! We have said before that the camaraderie on our team is not unlike that of a pirate ship. There’s the drinking, occasional singing and revelry when we get our hands on some doubloons (or gift cards, gift certificates, what have you). And there’s also some occasional bickering, which may lead to some crew members abandoning ship (which has happened during trivia games). Best part of all, was nobody had to walk the plank! We’re taking a devll-may-care attitude on our Wednesday trivia nights this season, keeping our eyes fixed on the final battle, rather than dwelling on how well we do in the weekly games. The most important thing is, we’re having fun! It’s been great having the team back together! As for scores, we finished in seventh with 124 points for the night, losing a little ground in the bar’s standings by moving from third to fourth. Just one point divides the third through fifth place teams, things are really starting to heat up! A bit of news, we are pleased to announce that Archie has graciously agreed to join the ‘Pods crew for the remainder of this trivia season. Welcome aboard, Archie!

If that tat isn’t proof he was meant to be part of our trivia team, I don’t know what is!
Archie will also be joining our crew on Saturday at the My Trivia Live semifinal game at Powell’s Pub. Enough parley, how’s about some questions?

knightrider.jpg
Knight Rider fanboy Scott C. joined us briefly after our trivia game Wednesday and began quizzing some of us about the series. “What is Michael Knight’s real name,” he asked. Always the smart aleck, I said, “David Hasselhoff?” The look he shot me when he indignantly told me to “shut up” was priceless!  It’s just too fun getting him riled up! 🙂
3. 1977- What actress who plays Olivia Pope on TV series “Scandal” was born in New York?
4. 1968 – The U.S. Embassy was attacked in what city as part of the Tet Offensive
Missed #3.

Final Category – Movie Characters
In a long-running film series, actresses Lois Maxwell, Caroline Bliss, Samantha Bond, and, most-recently, Naomie Harris have all played what character?
John comes up correct answer immediately. Unfortunately, so did all the teams ahead of us – and tied with us.
Tiebreaker for us, Ennui and YRS – To the nearest mile, what is the straight-line distance between Salt Lake City and Omaha?
YRS won the tiebreaker for the third place/$5 prize.
Game Two
1. Resorts – The only European Disney resort is located near what capital city? 10
2. Recent Music – Name one of the three songs by Rihanna to reach the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100 charts since 2010. Name two songs for an extra bonus point. Dave showed up just in time to help us get this for 2.

7. Movie Deaths – While skinny dipping in the ocean, a character named Chrissy Watkins becomes the first on-screen death in what ’70s film? 5

9. Singers – Audio clue of 2009 single, had to identify the artist, another Dave contribution for 4.
10. Spanish – The Spanish word “bombero” translates into what profession in English? Spanish expert Dave for 3.
I came up with 1, 2 and 3 right away and let the “sportos” have at #4. They had the right answer, but changed it at the last second (d’oh). Nice try, guys!
Scores – 20 teams, we were in second with 60 points behind Dem Iggs, who was in first with 63.
Final Category – Novels
In Treasure Island, by Robert Louis Stevenson, Jim Hawkins and Long John Silver’s ship is named for a real island in the Caribbean. Name that island.
I wrote down the name of every single sovereign Caribbean nation. Unfortunately, the answer we needed was not “exactly” among those names (though it kinda sorta was).
Oh well, this didn’t dampen our spirits a bit! Next trivia battle ho, which will be our MTL semifinal game Saturday. We’ll be taking a couple of trivia nights off until then. Time to slay this f—ing cold with a cutlass and flintlock pistol already! What the hell happened? Did I catch ANOTHER one? Argh! 🙂 As always, Go Pods, and stay classy, Evil Kitt!
