About 46 years ago today folk singer Melanie topped the Billboard Hot 100 charts with the song “Brand New Key,” which is about roller skating, a breakup with a boyfriend, and…sex. Though it’s mostly innuendo! This topped the U.S. charts the same weekend my husband, Mike, was born, which makes me chuckle because he HATES the song!

It helps bring back memories of roller skating as a kid! The biggest challenge wasn’t falling on your ass while you skated -but managing to use a girl’s restroom – on roller skates – without sliding off the toilet!
