Good thing the drinks are cheap Wednesdays at The Wurst Bar! Our weekly My Trivia Live games take place on “Whiskey Wednesday,” which means well whiskey drinks are just $2 each! Kind of takes the sting out of THREE WEEKS OF NOT WINNING ANY PRIZES! We’re certainly not expecting any sympathy, we were on quite a first place roll for a while, and we know no good deed goes unpunished! However, if anyone wants to mail sympathy cards to us, here’s our address (JK, JK)! Wednesday night’s flub was completely our bad – we wound up knowing the names of two of the three people we were supposed to name in the final – but wagered zero on the question. What’s worse – going all in on a final and f—ing up – or knowing the final question answer and wagering nothing? Moving on….
Round One
1. Advertising – What product uses the slogan “It’s not delivery – it’s (blank)?” 5
2. Music – Which Beatles crosses the road first on the Abbey Road album cover? Brad all over this, for a cautious wager of 1.
3. Words – What type of a person is a taikonaut? Be specific. Nope, miss for 3.
Round Two
1. Metal – What is the name for the process in which ore is heated to obtain a metal? 5
2. TV – What is the name of the character portrayed by Kurtwood Smith on “That ’70s Show?” 3
3. Assassinations – Which U.S. president did Lynette “Squeaky” From attempt to assassinate? For an extra three-point bonus, which state was Huey Long serving as governor when he was assassinated in 1935? Got this for 1 plus three bonus points.
Round Three
1. Literature – Which Jane Austen novel features the character Mr. Darcy? What? Not “Married with Children?”
🙂 Got this for 5
2. Central America – What is the only Central American country with English as its official language? 3
3. History – Which general accepted the surrender of Japan on behalf of the U.S. on the U.S.S. Missouri in 1945? 1
Halftime – After the New York Yankees, name the next four out of seven most valuable sports franchises out of the top 50 as listed in Forbes as of 2011.
Brad and I discussed lots of possibilities, and COULD’VE had them all correct! But we only managed to get two, for four points. This put us in third at the half with 31 points, behind Kids Jeopardy Rejects and Team Cats, who both had 33, and Team Pants in the top spot with 35 points.
Round Four
1. SCIENCE! – A pullicologist is an expert on what insect? Newsletter clue, 6.
2. Patriotic Songs – What patriotic folk song is the state anthem of Connecticut? 4
3. Elements – What element on the Periodic Table of Elements comes last alphabetically? Yes, I know I’m not usually the “go-to” person when science questions are asked (though I am kind of strong in biology/zoology/animal classification). Chemistry questions, I can name some elements (just don’t ask any follow-up questions, like atomic numbers, lol), and I managed to name the correct one in this case, but “someone” said it wasn’t an element. Not naming names…Miss for 2.
Round Five
1. Web Sites – In what year, within two, was Wikipedia launched? Went too early, miss for 2. I pushed for an earlier year than the person who talked me out of the correct answer in the last question…the shoe’s on the other foot? How does that expression go?
2. TV to Music – What ’80s TV star had a Billboard hit with “Heartbeat” in 1986? My first solo “hit” of the night…kind of redeems me for my pathetic performance in Tuesday’s “Face the Music” night with Kimberly! Boy was THAT dreadful! Confusing Peaches and Herb with Champagne? Total amateur hour, lol! Photo tie-in, this guy in the 2012 film “Django Unchained.”
3. SCIENCE! – In the International System of Units, what man’s name is used to describe inductance? Miss for 2.
Round Six
1. Resorts – The Ouchita Mountains, located in what U.S.state, are notable for hot springs with healing properties? And why is it when I say I know an answer I get “voir dired?” Dammit, I just knew this! Do I gotta testify before a grand jury? Sheesh…(boys, go fig) 6
2. Toys – What toy debuting in 1913 was inspired by steel girders? This question is heavily abridged, but I think y’all know the answer to it!
3. Magic – What is the name for the male version of a witch?
Eleven teams, scores 26 to 63, with Team Pants in first. We were in second with 59 points.
Final Category – Magazines
Name one of the three movie actors or actresses listed as one of Time Magazine’s top 100 persons of the century in 1999. Brad and I each came up with one of the people who would have been correct, but we went with Brad’s instead of mine, which I was completely OK with doing. But because we weren’t in agreement about the answer, they somehow decided to wager zero. Committee thinking! The bane of the best trivia teams!
Top three teams – Swans, Dirty, and Cat Litter. I am not good at writing down names of teams unless I really, really know who they are! Until next time, which will be tonight at Original Gravity Brewing Co., to use up some previous prize winnings. Unsure when I can post a recap of that game, I will TRY to do it sometime Friday! Maybe even tonight if I’m feeling exceptionally perky (I will post date it to make sure any West Coast teams who might be looking for a lifeline will get NONE). Unsure when our next “team” outing will be, probably Saturday, Oct. 14 when we play our semifinal game at McShane’s Pub Ypsilanti. We’ll be doing our best to imitate players in the World Series of Poker, lol! Dark glasses, hoodies, gloomy expressions…make the other teams struggle to see our “tells!” Stay classy, y’all, and Go Pods!
