Trivia Recap – Game #897 – March 31, 2026 – Red Rock Barbecue – Sporcle Events – Ypsilanti, MI

Answers are at the end.

We had a core “trio”  of ‘Pods again at a Red Rock Barbecue trivia night in Ypsi. We won a $20 first place prize and a $10 second place prize on a tiebreaker.

After coming out of hibernation from the last “extra” Michigan winter, we’ve been looking for a new spot to wage our trivia battles where we can actually get more than two of us together fairly regularly.

It looks like we have finally found that place! 😊

Red Rock offered Tuesday trivia nights starting in 2012, but they ceased after a few years. Then the whole place shut down for a while during the pandemic.

Now trivia is back again – and so is the awesome all-day beer happy hour specials! 🍺🍻

Like The Who song says…

“I call that a bargain…the best I ever had.”

Here were our questions:

Game One/Round One

1 Nursery Rhymes – According to the nursery rhyme, where does the Muffin Man live?

Our host Nathan did the best impression of the Gingerbread Man from “Shrek” that I’ve ever heard! 🀣

2 TV Series – What Apple TV series starring Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon, which debuted in 2019 and was inspired by a book by journalist Brian Stelter, follows the employees of the fictional UBA TV network? I’d love to be able to actually watch this (love Reese Witherspoon), but I don’t have Apple TV.  😒 We still got this though!

3 Songwriting Credit – Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II received songwriting credits on what 2019 single by Ariana Grande that interpolates “My Favorite Things” from The Sound of Music?

NERD POINT: Name the album this song appeared on.

Normally I get all excited when I hear the names Rodgers and Hammerstein in a trivia question, but my excitement quickly deflated when this became a “music recorded within the past 10 years question” instead! πŸ₯Ί Nope and nope.

4 Kitchen Terms – What is the insect-related term for the cutting technique in which a thick piece of meat is sliced into a thinner, larger piece?

This is where brainstorming led to the right answer, but not in the way you’d expect! I had a list of insects written down – cricket, grasshopper, ant, fly, ladybug, cockroach, and showed them to Mike, who was the answer submitter for the evening. Then he came up with a different insect that I knew was right! πŸ¦‹ 😊

Mystery Round One – Visual

I didn’t get the URL for this mystery round, but since I have some time today, I looked up the pictures of each of the people they asked about from the Oscars 2026 ceremony. Here they are (you’re welcome, these photos are nicer than the ones we had to look at on our tiny phones in the game, no questions on screen at our bar).

#1 Who dat?
#2 Who dis?
#3 Name BOTH of these people!
#4 Who?

We missed all but #2. Stinky mystery round for us πŸ’©

Round Two

5 Interstates – Which interstate highway is the only one to run through all 13 of the original colonies – I-75, I-85, I-95 or I-99? Mike again the hero here, because he used to live in a state that was one of the original 13 colonies! Location, location, location?

Now time for Brad to be the hero…

6 College Sports – What current Big 12 conference University, located in the city of Provo, has a long-standing tradition of prohibiting its varsity athletic teams from competing on Sundays?

7 Film Firsts – What 2019 French historical drama was the first film directed by a woman to win the Queer Palm at the Cannes Film Festival? FB host clue.

8 Gemstones – What is the rarest and most valuable color of diamond, with only a few dozen pure specimens known to exist? Miss.

Mystery Round Two

Odd One Out – Transgender Day of Visibility

While the players on our team are supporters of LGBTQ rights, it does not necessarily mean that we know a lot about its pop culture! As would be proven with how poorly we’re gonna do on this mystery round. But one of our misses was totally on us (our answer submitter who shall not be named misread the question and didn’t listen to the person sitting next to him). πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ

M1 Schitt’s Creek, Pose, The Umbrella Academy, Euphoria

M2 Colors in the transgender pride flag designed by Monica Helms in 1999 – blue, pink, purple and white

M3 Video game characters who are canonically transgender – Lev (The Last of Us Part II), Kris (Deltarune), Madeline (Celeste) and Poison (Final Fight)

M4 Films directed by one or both of the Wachowskis – Cloud Atlas, Elysium, The Matrix Resurrections, and Speed Racer

We should’ve gotten #1 correct. It would have been the only one of these we got correct. Guess what happened instead? Goose egg!

We were one spot out of last out of six teams heading into the final with 35 points. Stiff Tutu was in first with 45, Survivor North Sentinel Island was in second with 41, and dangerous nights was in third with 36.

We bet it all on the category of Organizations.

While it does have a coast guard and a small bit of civilian specialists for NATO operations, what is the only NATO member country without a standing army? This country, one of the organizations founding members, is the least populous member state of NATO.

The nerdy guys I play with were all over this right away…

We finished first, with 50 points, Odin’s Ravens finished second with 41.

Game Two/Round Three

9 Pioneers – In 1934, aviator Elinor Smith became the first woman to appear on a box containing what specific product?

10 Tall Buildings – Name one of the three Asian countries that are home to buildings that have held the title of world’s tallest building in the 21st century.

NERD POINT: Name both.

We got one correct country, not both.

11 Instrument Songs – What “Z” stringed instrument has a wide flat body? They played an audio clue here. So this is all I’m gonna give ya. I think you can narrow it down!

12 Shoes – What brand of casual footwear founded in 1958 uses a basset hound as its logo?

Mystery Round Three

JB People

Give the first and last names of the people described by the following clues, all of whom has the initials JB.

M1 British singer-songwriter known for the songs “You’re Beautiful” and “Goodbye My Lover.”

M2 Actor whose film appearances include The Goonies, No Country For Old Men and multiple films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

M3 Actress who plays Mary Camden on Seventh Heaven and Cora Tannetti on the first season of The Sinner

M4 Spanish actor who son an Oscar for No Country for Old Men, working alongside the answer to #2

Missed #3.

Round Four

13 Volleyball – In any of the first four sets of Olympic indoor volleyball match, the first team to reach how many points with a minimum lead of two points wins the set? Miss.

14 TV Jobs – What national restaurant chain known for its massive menu is Penny’s employer for the first seven seasons of The Big Bang Theory?

I have never been to one of these restaurants, but I was curious…so before I went to sleep, I started looking at their massive online menu. And I started to get drowsy (not hungry). You’re all welcome! Try this if you’re having trouble getting to sleep! πŸ’―

15 Physics – In physics, the six classical machines as defined by Renaissance scientists are lever, wheel and axle, pulley, inclined nplane, screw and what tool that shares its name with a type of footwear?

I tried brainstorming again here by jotting down a list of shoes – boot, Oxford, flipflop, sandal, thong, kitten heel, pump…after about a minute or so I thought of the right (ugly) shoe. Here I thought this would be something that the nerds would have to answer! 🀣

16 Film Debuts – THe 2006 action film The Marine, produced by WWE Films, marks the first acting credit for what professional wrestler who  retired in late 2025? Talked ourselves out of the right guy…

Mystery Round Four

Music Fandoms

Name the musical act based on the name by which their fans refer to themselves.

M1 Little Sailors

M2 Little Monsters

M3 The Victims

M4 Juggalos

Missed #1.

We were tied in third with 43 points with dangerous nights going into the final behind Survivor North Sentinel Island, 46 and Stiff Tutu, who had 52 points.

Against our better judgment, we bet it all on the category of…

HBO shows

Lost co-creator Damon Lindelof has created or co-created two TV series that have aired on HBO. Name either series – one is a supernatural drama series that ranked #3 on Esquire’s list of “The 50 Best HBO Series of All Time” and the other earned 11 Primetime Emmy Awards in 2020, including one for Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series.

We were tied for second after this question with dangerous nights and had this tiebreaker:

Including today, how many days ago did Lost debut on ABC?

Mike immediately went to work on this one after I gave him a year to work with. And his math skills did not disappoint! We almost felt bad for winning this tiebreaker – dangerous nights sounded so bummed that they missed it! Our guess was just a little closer.

We chatted with them after the game while they were out having a smoke break, and we were all in good spirits. We told them they’d get us next time!

We do have plenty of shitty trivia games, it’s good that we’ll have the other teams to keep us on our toes!

Out next trivia game isn’t until next Monday, when we’ll wage music quiz battle at Corner Brewery. Have a nice Easter everyone (who celebrates), don’t eat too much candy!

As always, Go Pods, and stay classy, Jessica Biel!
