Trivia Recap – March 3, 2026 – McShane’s Pub – My Trivia Live – Ypsianti, MI

Answers are at the end.

A couple of nights ago, we played an “Against All Odds” trivia night – with undertones of the Battle of Agincourt combined with the Kobayashi Maru test on “Star Trek.”

You know –  an unwinnable scenario? AKA a Sporcle Events Music Quiz without any of our strongest players Monday night?

Sigh…after that, I just HAD to go out for the “Do-Over” trivia night!

I think a lot of us trivia junkies have done this (please tell me it’s not just me). You know? You have a shitty night of trivia – and vainly tell yourself that you’ll feel better if you get out for another helping ASAP with the hopes of doing better?

I’ve even been called out by trivia opponents for such things in the past.

“I knew you wouldn’t be able to resist coming out here tonight,” a person whom I will not name said to me when I showed up for my “Do-Over” game the night after a dreadful game.

Also, with the Worm Moon being full, we couldn’t resist going out just because of that! My trivia team does pretty well during weather and lunar events – except for the times that we don’t 😂

Things got off to a very, very rough start. Miss. Miss. Miss. Add seven more misses to that. Yes TEN misses during the game. Was this lovely full moon – which was blood red the previous night – going to let us down? 🤔 🌙 🌝

My husband took this before our game.

I guess we had to wait until the very, very end!

We managed to win a third place prize for (get this, I know none of you are going to believe me) actually knowing the answer to the final question! IKR? 😲 😳

Fake news? AI generated story?

Thank you Worm Moon for not letting us down! 😭

Here were our abbreviated questions:

Round One

Idioms – Don’t count what before they are hatched, per the idiom?

Pockets – How many pockets are on a traditional pool table?

Same Name – if pluralized, what onomatopoeia word means a fringe of hair near the forehead?

Round Two

Celebrations – What irrational number is celebrated on March 14?

Bedtime – What type of low wheeled bed is designed to fit underneath another bed?

Bible – In the book of Matthew, what two things are people commanded to love? Miss. We must be heathens for not knowing a Bible question!

Round Three

Forts – Named for a Union general from the US Civil War, Fort Meade is located in which US state? Miss.

Animals – What animal is assigned with the House of Stark in Game of Thrones?

Artists – Who painted Starry Night? One of my absolute favorites…

Halftime – Collective Nouns

Given the following collective nouns for animal groups, and the starting letters for the animals, match the collective noun to the animals. Got that? Good…

Clouder/C, Gaggle/G, Bloat/H, Skulk/F

Missed skulk and clouder (we considered the right answer for skulk but went with a different one).

Halftime scores:

29, Lab Rats/Pods; Maddie Platters, 30; Spacecats/Three 32; Rather Be  At, 36.

Round Four

Textiles – What is the two-word trademarked word for virgin Scottish wool meeting specific quality standards named by a 1993 act? Miss. Its name sounds like a character in an Agatha Christie novel.

Sequels – What was the 2022 sequel to Thor Ragnarok, which was the 29th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe franchise?

Pardon me, I feel a pop culture rant coming on 🙄😂 😩

Twenty-ninth? Twenty-ninth movie from the same damn franchise?  Really? 😲🤯

I hate that you can’t even watch one of these damn movies anymore and have a prayer of understanding the plot unless you’ve seen all of the previous movies and in some cases, the TV series preceding it. Consider me “Marvel fatigued!” Look it up, “Marvel Fatigue” is a thing. I’m more of a DC girl!

Miss.

Golf – Can we not? 😩

What golfer won Masters Championship in 2022, beating Rory McElroy? Used our freebie answer here.

Round Five

Albums – What South Korean band recorded the concept album called Proof? Nope.

Influential People – Christopher Poole founded what controversial image sharing site and was named one of Time’s most influential people in 2008? Miss.

Fun and Games – What tile based board game launched in 2000 was named for a hilltop town in southern France? Torn between two games and we picked the wrong one 😞

Round Six

Here’s another “Iceman” (RIP)

Nicknames – What former UFC lightweight heavyweight is nicknamed “Iceman?” I think we we were ready to go home by this point – I asked for our bill and we cashed out!

Cities – Marrakesh and Tangiers are large cities in what country? Yay an answer we knew! T

Food Origins – Bratwurst originated in what country?

Scores heading into the final:

Spacecats, 44; Pods, 45; Lab Rats; Seal Team/Three, 58; Maddie splatters, 62 and Rather Be At, 64.

Final category – Rivers

Henderson Lake and Lake Tear of the Clouds on Mount Marcy are considered to be the source of what US river?

We had a whole list of potential rivers and started crossing some of them off. Then Mount Marcy started seeming to me like it was in a certain state, and as it turned out, I was actually right about which major river is also in that state.

We are usually so awful at coming up with correct answers about rivers! 😫

We really, really needed this! Thank you trivia gods, moon gods, whatever other higher power helped me think of the right answer. For once! 😆

Yeah, our luck in trivia games hasn’t been great lately 🥺

I believe that this is it for our trivial pursuits this week. But who knows when the whim may strike again?

Game winners: Pods, 57; Rather Be At, 64; Maddy Platters, 65.

We should have wagered it all. But our game was just so awful that our confidence was completely shaken 😂

As always, Go Pods and stay classy, Otto Von Bismarck! The sausage king of Germany!
