Note, this is not the typical question for question style recap of trivia games that I typically post. No answers, just a sampling of questions, it’s more about the overall experience than the actual questions. That being said, please read on!
It was a more boisterous music trivia night than usual on a recent Monday evening at the usually laid-back Corner Brewery in Ypsilanti, MI.
I mean, who isn’t all about your team and other teams having fun on trivia nights? π€
A group of newcomers called Girls of Elite were having so much fun that they should have been asked to “share” it with the rest of us!
About “sharing…”

Ya know how the word “Bogart” has been used to describe the act of someone hogging a certain substance for themselves rather than sharing it with others? Is that even a legit slang term anymore? Honestly I am not the expert on current weed slang (forgive me)!
Why am I mentioning weed? Uh, no reason π€π€£
Anyway, it takes all kinds of things to make a trivia night fun, even if it means sneaking off for a quick trip to a bathroom stall, amirite? π
Yes, the Girls of Elite were a boisterous bunch! They sang along loudly to songs (and they did sing pretty well, if I might add) and seemed to be all over the recent songs with repeated words that they asked us about for the game two final question.
Our only real complaint would be to maybe keep the noise and boisterousness levels down when they’re playing playing songs that we need to hear so that we can answer questions about them! The term “I can’t hear myself think” comes into play here!
If we can get all teams on board with that thinking, then by all means, the more the merrier on our music quiz nights π
Special shout out to the team Don’t Forget to Strip Your Bartender for finishing first for the night! Maybe make sure Josh does not detract from his normal dress code, right? π©³ βοΈ
With the weather being as cold as it’s been in Michigan, we’ve probably all seen the memes about “winter shorts guy.” You know – that guy who typically wears shorts year round, no matter how cold it is?
Yes, Josh is that guy too! He raised our concerns recently when he (gasp) wore pants instead of shorts to a trivia game. Even the bartenders did a double take!
Since he resumed wearing shorts for the recent night that they finished first, then it must be deduced that his wearing shorts might very well be good luck, right? π
Our team,,, which used the team name “It’s Groundhog Day” didn’t do quite as well on this night, though we did finish first in game one. As you might expect, this was all because of Kim. π
In this case, it was because of her knowledge of country music. I’m sadly a huge “nope” when it comes to that category!
They asked us this question:

She said that she and her mom both love this song, but her mom loves one singer’s version, and Kim likes the other version better.
My mantra in trivia has always been “It doesn’t matter how you know an answer as long as you know it.”
It was still fun hearing her story!
I guess the only similar story I’d have involving songs my mom and I disagree upon would be from high school. I was driving and she was a passenger, and said that I could pick the music. She reneged on that agreement, so I reacted by calling her a “bitch.” I instantly regretted it of course, and that was the one and only time I’ve ever called her that name. But she did kind of agree later that she deserved it π
Here were our game categories:
G1 – Pop Rock, 2000s Rap, Disco, B Sides, EDM, R&B 1990s Rock, 2020s House
G2 1980s Rock, Current Hits, Protest Songs, 2010s Alt Rock, 70s #1s, 2000s Indie, 90s Hip Hop, 2020s Synth Pop.
Since it was Groundhog Day, we also had a like themed mystery round featuring songs from that 1993 movie. Yes there were other songs besides “that” Sonny and Cher earworm everyone knows!
One of the songs they played was a Vivaldi piece – what a treat to hear a non 20th or 21st century tune on a music trivia night πΌπ±
We struggled a bit in some categories, but overall held our own pretty well as a “Thompson Twins esque” threesome.
We talked ourselves out of the correct song on the A side when we heard the Creedence Clearwater Revival song “Down on the Corner,” but correctly guessed which group produced theΒ Sister Sledge disco song “We Are Family.”
We were also a nope for 2020s House music (though I think Kim got one the three parts of the question correct on a guess).
A little triumphant game moment that me the music quiz B-teamer helped with was a question about the singer known as the King of Soul, in the category of protest songs. We did not know it right away, but that’s OK! It’s almost more rewarding when you have to work for the correct answer a bit, isn’t it?
The game two final category was sadly not in our collective wheelhouse:

Oh well. Can’t win ’em all. Unless it’s the 2000s Grammys – and you’re Carlos Santana!

We’ll be back for TWO games of trivia at Corner next week – Music Quiz Monday, and regular trivia Wednesday (allegedly for Wednesday, if we get enough players).
As always, Go Pods, Sparty On, and stay classy, Nile Rodgers!
