Answers are at the end.
We visited a trivia spot on a recent icy cold Saturday evening that we used to play semi-regularly before the Plague – Oscar’s in Saline. It’s only about 20 minutes from home, but because it’s on a Saturday evening (among other things), it’s not really a good spot for us to play each week.
But if you like a good no-nonsense sports bar with decent drink and food prices, free on-site parking and of course weekly trivia games (they offer two here – the other trivia night is a My Trivia Live night 7:30 Wednesdays), then look no further!
Sometimes the bar gets a bit packed for special events like super important sportsball games, but on this night, my husband and I were able to get our “favorite” seats at the end of the bar. We tend to like to sit near the door at trivia nights so as to make a quick escape if the game goes south (about that…ugh game one was NOT kind to us)! We also like to be able to get a good view of the trivia room. Hey we all have our “things” don’t we?
We tried going out for a trivia night Thursday, but apparently there was some sort of super important sportsball event or something going on that packed the bar too much for us to find a good table. Which is why we went out for a weekend trivia game (a rarity for us these days).
This was certainly a lopsided trivia night for us! TWENTY points was all we were able to scrape together for game one! This put us in last going into the final, and since we didn’t want to potentially end up with single digit points, we wagered zero on the final question and finished in NOT last place!
The second game was much kinder to us, we managed to finish first in that game, and I think we were one of only two teams to get the game two final question correct. Who says watching Saturday morning cartoons – even as an adult – can’t pay off on trivia nights?
We occasionally try to take a “When in Rome” approach when we play trivia games in non-regular spots. Since we kind of “thought” that this would be a good place to go a bit…incognito, and not use our regular team name like some of the regular teams here also do, we went with one of our common “aliases” that we use when we’re too lazy to come up with anything better.

So we used the standby “Bastard Squad,” which is inspired by the short-lived 1980s British comedy series “The Young Ones.” They only reference “Bastard Squad” a couple of times (apparently it was a popular fictitious TV series on that series), but it totally sounds like something that Mike and I would watch! This series used to be aired late nights on MTV during the 1980s.
“The Young Ones” is not easily streamable in the U.S. unless you want to pay (it is worth it)! But you can probably find hard copies on DVD or Blu-Ray. Just be sure that your player can handle DVDS in multiple regions, or buy the DVD designated for your region.
