Trivia Recap – Game # 866 – Virtual Sporcle Events – November 5, 2025

We played our first “virtual” Sporcle Events game since January 29 on a recent Wednesday evening. My husband and I decided that November would be a good month to take our trivial pursuits a bit lighter – and go “out” for trivia games less. Once December rolls around, we’ll see how we feel about getting back onto the live trivia “horse” more!

While virtual games aren’t a good chance to win prize money, being able to connect with friends and loved ones who live too far away from you to join you in a live game is kind of nice! I got to have some virtual “face time” with my brother, who lives in the upper reaches of Michigan’s U.P. To visit him requires a drive of 9-10 hours (depending upon how many stops you make and how heavily you hit your car’s accelerator ).

We signed up for a double virtual game hosted by Mike E. Most virtual games are one game only, but two games are offered Wednesday nights. Here were our questions:

Game One/Round One

1 TV Actors – Actor Wayne Knight is well known for his role as what character on the long-running sitcom “Seinfeld?”

2 Airports – What city’s airport was renamed for musician John Lennon in 2001? Good guess, could only think of two possible cities, picked the right one…

3 Athletes – In 2022, what athlete became the youngest recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom at the age of 25? Another good guess, yay we named an athlete we could think of!

4 Comic Books – In a 2007 DC Comics special, what Looney Tunes yellow canary teamed up witht eh superhero Black Canary, calling her the “bwonde wady?”

Mystery Round One

November Hit Songs – Identify the artists who recorded the following songs that were #1 hits during the month of November in their respective years.

M1 – Stitches, 2015

M2 I’m Sprung, 2005

M3 Fantasy, 1995

M4 Broken Wings, 1985

Missed #s 1 and 2. Sister in-law Mel really tried thinking of the name for #2, describing him as “that whiny guy!”

Round Two

5 Historical Firsts – In 1863, what South American country became the first to abolish the death penalty for all crimes? Apparently we were the only team looking at FB host clues becore the game, because we were the only team to get it correct!

6 Sports Equipment – Prior to 2021, the ITTF specified that table tennis paddles had to have one of what two colors on each side?

NERD POINT: Name both.

Yay we got both!

Anyone else think of this movie when they had this question? 😂

7 Radio – In 1970, what DJ originally hosted the program “American Top 40,” which is currently hosted by Ryan Seacrest? I used to listen to this every week in the mid 1980s and write down every song! What a time capsule if I actually kept these!

8 Populations – What is the most populous city in Switzerland? Good guess.

Mystery Round Two – Visual

Identify the company logos that have tails in them based on partial logos:

We missed #4.

We were in whatever place (who cares in virtual games) with 47 points.

Final Category – Hockey Legends

In 2025, Jaromir Jagr began his 38th pro hockey season in Czechia. He played for nine NHL teams in 24 seasons. Name one of the two NHL teams he played for that are based west of the Mississippi River.

Since we didn’t know anything about this guy, we just started naming teams west of the Mississippi. Miss.

Game Two/Round Three

9 Mobile Games – Released in 2026, what was the fastest mobile game to reach 10 million worldwide downloads at the time, achieving the milestone in only seven days?

I remember when this game was popular. I was driving to a My Trivia Live music trivia game in Livonia, and made a wrong turn, so I turned around in a public cemetery. There was a sign p posted prominently at the entrance stating “This is NOT a Pokemon Go location!” 😂 Go catcfh ’em all somewhere else then?

10 Movie Taglines – What 2002 film featured the tagline “They came. They thawed. They conquered?”

NERD POINT: What was the subtitle of the first sequel to this film?

Got this for the points and the bonus.

11 Memoirs – What musical theater actress and winner of a non-competitive EGOT is releasing her memoir titled “Kids – Wait Till You Hear This!” in 2026? This was just a “words” question for us, had this been audio like it was for the live players we may have gotten it since she has such a distinctive voice (like her legendary mama). Miss.

Did I just give a couple of hints?

12 Innovations – Dr. Harry Coover is credited with inventing what common product, which was used to close wounds during the Vietnam War? Sister-in-law Mel for the win here!

Mystery Round Three

Name the U.S. president most closely associated with each initiative.

M1 New Deal

M2 Great Society

M3 New Frontier

M4 Square Deal

Round Four

13 80s Movies – What 1989 Spike Lee “joint” explores a day in Brooklyn during a heatwave?

14 Outlaws – In 1980, outlaw Ned Kelly was killed in a police shootout in what country? I was the one who remembered watching a movie about this guy so yay points!

15 Sports Feats – Gene Sarazen is the first player to achieve a modern career Grand Slam in what sport? We missed this. We didn’t think of that other more boring sport that has grand slams…

16 Guest Voices – What legendary Southern rocker voiced Luanne’s boyfriend, and later, husband Lucky on “King of the Hill?” Did anyone else watching the recent KOTH revival  wonder why his and Luanne’s absence wasn’t addressed? I mean, I know they only had 10 episodes to work with as opposed to the 20 something they had in the old days, but Luanne was a major character.  Being that both of the original voice actors for Luanne and Lucky died before the revival, they could at least say that they won the lottery and disappared or something. A nice redneck exit, or “redxit,” if you will.

OK, my little rant over!

Mystery Round Four – Born in Kansas

Identify the following persons born in Kansas based on the clues.

M1 Aviation pioneer who disappeared over the Pacific Ocean in 1937

M2 1997 NFL MVP who spent his entire 10-year career with the Detroit Lions

M3 Silent film star known as “The Great Stone

Face” who starred in “The General”

M4 Jazz saxophonist and bandleader known as “Yardbird”

We had 47 points going into the final again and some other team had a perfect score (those are very common in virtual games).

Final Category – Arcade Games

Based on a 1991 movie, what is the best selling pinball machine of all time?

I’ll bet that we weren’t the only team incorrectly guessing this movie:

We may do another virtual game next week. As always, Go Pods, and stay classy, Liza Minnelli!
