Trivia Recap – October 16, 2025 – McShane’s Pub – My Trivia Live – Ypsilanti, MI

Has this happened to anyone else after playing a trivia game? X subject gets mentioned in the game and you have the urge to watch a certain movie or hear a certain song?

On that note, and full disclosure – and absolutely no apologies whatsoever…

I am really, really wanting to watch “Legally Blonde!”

I know this may be surprising for some people to hear, since I am not really a “chick flick” kind of person. But yes, I actually really, really love the movie! And my husband does, too!

Rather than ponder the whys of it all, it really is a great underdog story! Reese Witherspoon is just so adorable in this!

Poor Elle was pranked in this scene, but she knew that the only way out  – was through!

No, I’m not gonna say what the movie “Legally Blonde” has to do with the trivia game we played! Now THAT would be too easy, wouldn’t it?

It was just my husband Mike and I battling the questions – again. Our trivia helpers have been kind of busier than usual since school has started!

We finished in third with a $10 gift card and 63 league points.

Here were our abbreviated questions:

Round One

Gambling – What word describes a stake placed before receiving cards – and before placing a bet?

In the Kitchen – What type of sweet crust is typically used when making cheesecake?

Greek Mythology – A wooden horse was used by Greeks to infiltrate what city?

So far, so good…

Round Two

Animal Kingdom – What type of animal in the animal kingdom is most numerous of all?

Actors – What high grossing actor played Zeus Carver in the 1995 film Die Hard with a Vengeance?

Gunslingers – What American gunslinger and frontierswoman is buried next to Wild Bill Hickock in Deadwood, SD?

Round Three

Who – Brian Dunkleman was co-host of what reality series debuting in 2002? Good guess for the points (whew)!

Book to Movie – “There and Back Again” was the subtitle of what 1937 book that was made into three movies? Butter over too much bread IMHO – there was absolutely no reason to stretch this book into three movies. Well, no reason except…money! πŸ’°

Languages – From what language is the word “tsunami” derived?

No misses yet…will the halftime fuck us?

Before or after 2000

Identify whether the following things made their world debuts before – or after – the year 2000.

Google, Roomba, Swiffer, Pepsi One

We got all of these correct!

I didn’t get all of the halftime scores, but Spacecats were in third with 31, Titanic Dive Team was in second with 32, and we were in first with 37.

Round Four

Science! – What unit of length is approximately 5.88 trillion miles long? A bit of a thinker, but we got it…

Cartoons- In 2007, TV Guide ranked what 1969 cartoon series the fifth greatest of all time? Zoiks, we got it!

Holidays – What Christian holiday immediately follows Halloween?

No misses yet! Round five might fuck us!

Designers – Give the first and last name of what designer who died in September, 2025? Yup, our first miss of the game!

Countries – Easter Island is a territory of what country? We were definitely not sure of this, so we used our “answer of the day” to get the points for free.

Sitcom Characters – What do the letters DJ stand for in reference to a daugher on “Full House?” No idea, neither of us ever watched this. We did try to guess, though!

Round Six

States – A land mass belonging to what state is closest to Bermuda?

Constitution – What amendment states that a president may serve only two terms? Miss. I talked Mike out of the right answer. But to be fair – he didn’t seem really sure of his answer.  Still though…this one was on me (sorry Mike)! 😌

Diner Slang – What extra items are added to a meal if the server tells the kitchen staff to “make it cry?”

Scores heading into the final:

???, 34; Keeping up with the Joneses, 42; Pocket Pool Sharks, 47; Camino, 48; Dead Guys/Spacecats, 53; Mama, 56; Ypsi Starlings Rugby, 58; Pods, 63 and Titanic Dive Team, 66.

Final Category – Trademarks

What iconic uniform was the first commercial uniform to be trademarked by the U.S. Patent Office?

Congrats to Dead Guys – Adam playing by himself – for being the only person in the room to get this correct! He finished first, Titanic Dive Team finished second, and we finished third with a $10 gift card.

What a whirlwind this past week of trivia has been! So many ups…and downs! Getting our highest scoring tournament game ever – only to be stymied by a final question about…Disney! πŸ˜”  It’s always disappointing when this happens in a high stakes game, but…life goes on, right?  Trivia also goes on!

Fun moment in a music trivia game last Monday involving my husband Mike, who usually just tags along to the games while Kim, her friends and I do the “heavy lifting.” But when we had a nerd point involving song used in an “action/sci-fi” franchise. I knew that he loves these kinds of movies, so I acted like a baseball coach and said “Mike – you’re up to bat! Get off the bench!” He listened to the song, which Kim and her friend Amy had already ID’d the title and artist, all Mike had to do was remember what film franchise it was from. I told them to let him think a bit – and he took a swing and holy moly it was a HIT (crowd cheers)! Just imagine the legendary Ernie Harwell doing the commentary here! I met him before in a past life as a newspaper reporter. So many sportsball people were jealous of me for this! I think it was a book signing or something?

So what film franchise was it?

I talked to him about this later, I asked him if I’d put too much pressure on him, and he said no – and that he actually kind of liked it! He really likes being able to help out in games! ☺

So that’s it for our trivial pursuits until next week! As always, Go Pods, and stay classy, Hugh Hefner!

Are you still here? πŸ€”
