Trivia Plans -Week of October 13, 2025 – Also – What’s Up with the Corner Brewery Trivia Nights? πŸ€”

Know who this guy is? Also, is he based on someone Walt Disney know IRL? If you knew this guy is, you may have won $ in a trivia tournament last weekend!😭

Sigh. I thought I’d finally assembled the perfect trivia “dream team” for a cash tournament last weekend.

Up until that pesky final question? It really…was! I don’t think we’ve ever had so few misses ever in a tournament!

But that ship has sailed, it’s time to continue shaking it off and continue doing what we “try” to do best – and that’s winning prizes in local trivia games!

One of the local trivia haunts we’ve been frequenting is the Thursday night My Trivia Live scene at McShane’s in Ypsi. We plan to play Thursday, hopefully with a third and maybe a fourth amigo!

In a couple of weeks, Zukey Lake Tavern near Pinckney is doing a Halloween trivia night. That’s 7 pm Wednesday October 29. My husband and I are thinking of going!

To kick off this week, we’ll hit up a Sporcle Events music quiz game at the “Corner Brewery” in Ypsilanti, MI Monday.

Current music quiz standings at Corner Brewery…

Team Armless Chairs is nipping at our heels in the standings, threatening to topple us from our spot at the top of the leaderboard.

Don’t Forget to Strip Your Bartender is not far behind them. They are a fixture at the popular  Wednesday trivia night scene at Corner Brewery, which is known for its “plus sized” trivia teams (this is not a fat shame lol), most with six or more players on any given trivia night.

I’m hearing that maybe these Wednesday trivia nights might not be as popular as they used to be. Recently, I saw that there were a whopping four available tables near game time on a Wednesday trivia night 😲

I remember arriving an hour before game start to lay claim to a table in the past!

What’s more, I could have sworn I overheard a host for the bar turning away players!

Yes, really!

It was about 15 minutes or so before game start time, my husband and I were sitting outside near the host stand, which is next to the only public entrance to the bar.

A 20-something old woman and a man approached the host stand and asked about trivia. The female host asked if they already had a team waiting inside, they said they did not. From what it sounded like, the host told them to maybe try getting more players to join them and maybe come back another week?

What what WHAT?

After hearing this, my husband went inside to check out the trivia room. He could  clearly see FOUR empty tables!

Is this directive coming down from management or was this host misinformed?

I have already gotten the vibe on previous trivia nights at this place that they like having the tables in the trivia room filled. Problem is, they all can seat up to 12 people (depending upon your size and comfort levels).

This is the main reason I’ve given up on playing the Wednesday trivia nights here. I just don’t know enough people! 😭 Also I don’t like playing with big groups.

Still, you would think that the established “mega teams” who already play there every week would have staked out their favorite trivia tables by 6:45, right? Are they hoping that a giant group is going to suddenly show up to play right at game time to fill one of the empty four tables?

I’m shaking my head over this. As a trivia lover, seeing trivia players getting turned away doesn’t sit well with me. 😫

I have heard other things, too. One, the current host Ben, does a great job of helping to discourage cheating.  Otherwise, he has little rapport with the players. Also his attendance has been sporadic, and the guest hosts aren’t always on the ball.

The longtime previous host Tim resigned last year. One player I talked to said he thought that Tim had developed a following and that might be part of the reason for the empty tables at game time. Fair enough!

He also said he heard some players complaining about questions being too easy. I haven’t been playing anything but music quiz nights in the Sporcleverse for the past few months, so I can’t really comment on that.

Maybe some readers of this blog  can comment on that?

I’m looking at you, Ohio Man! πŸ˜‚
