My husband and I checked out a local Sporcle Events theme trivia night at Sticks in Ypsilanti’s historic “Depot Town” on a recent chilly fall afternoon.

Which I’m delighted to report, because as of two nights ago, I wore shorts and a tank top to a music trivia night!

So it was a perfect evening for a trivia night about one of the spookiest families in pop culture.

How fitting that right next to our booth outside the window was a creepy spider web!

Questions covered pretty much all aspects of the AF universe – the 1964 TV series, the comics, the 1990s films, the late 1990s live action series, the Broadway musical, the animated films and of course…the Netflix series Wednesday (which I adore).

I was the only “team” showing up for this at first! A couple of other players played game one, and my husband showed up in time for game two.

We wound up playing as two separate teams (more about that if you read on). It was…interesting!

Got all of these correct.

Only two teams heading into the final, me playing under the moniker “Nevermore Dropout,” with 45 points and Kitties, who had 23 points.

Category – Lyrics

I figured (correctly) that this would be about the theme song for the 1960s series, and based on how awfully I’d done on past questions about the show…

Bet zero then?

Lo and behold:

Name two of the three words that all precede “on” in the second verse of the theme song to the 1960s TV show The Addams Family. Two of the words have five letters, one has four letters and they all  rhyme with each other.

Neither team got this correct.

I held onto my 45 points, Kitties d ropped to 18.

Kitties opted not to play the second game, which was right around when my “better half ” showed up. Host Sarah asked if we’d mind playing against each other? In all of the years we’ve played trivia together, we’d never tried that. Hell, he doesn’t even like playing Trivial Pursuit against me or the bar trivia game NTN offers!

But we knew that if we didn’t do this, there would be no game two!

Huh. Why not?

It was actually kind of fun! We mostly teamed up, but did our own things, too.

We put in guesses for two different decades one decade apart, figuring one would be correct. Mine wound up being correct.

10 Actors – What actor played Gomez in the 1960s series and Grandpapa Addams in the revival series “The New Addams Family” in the late 1990s?

I decided to help him out with this one! 😉

11 Summertime -What is the name of the summer camp that Wednesday and Pugsley are sent to in Addams Family Values?

We both love thus movie and both knew this.

12 Episode Titles – What three-letters word do all of the titles of episodes in the Netflix series “Wednesday” have in common?

We both knew this.

Musical Pick ‘Em

From the following list of seven songs, choose the four that are performed in the 2010 Broadway musical The Addams Family.

Crazier Than You, Fright of Their Lives, Good Old Fashioned Wedding,  Live Before We Die, One Normal Night, Where Did We All Go Wrong, The Whole “Being Dead” Thing.

We went our separate ways on this round, I got three correct songs, him two.

13 Crossovers – The Addams Family’s first animated appearance was on a 1972 episode of a TV series in what Hanna-Barbera franchise? Good guess from us both.

14 Furniture- What is the name of the kind of chair that Morticia often sits on in the 1960s show? It is made of woven rattan or bamboo, has a flared back and shares its name with a type of bird? I had one guess,  he had a different one that I liked better, his was correct.

15 Video Games – The video game “Fester’s Quest” was released in North America in 1989 for what home video game console?We put in two different guesses, his was correct.

16 Same Name – The 977 TV special “Halloween With The Addams Family” marks the only appearance of Gomez’  younger brother, who has what six-letter name that is also the nickname of what Mexican revolutionary?

Mike’s guess again was correct (this round almost all him)!

The correct answer to each clue is also the title of a published anthology of drawings of The Addams Family:

We both only knew one of these.

We were tied doing into the final with 39 points. I told him what what I was wagering on the category “performers,” he kept his wager choice secret.

Final Question – Performers

There are four actors who voice the  four immediate family members in the 2019 animated film- Gomez, Morticia, Wednesday and Pugsley.

These performers are also known for their roles in Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens, Hancock, and It, respectively. Name two of those actors. W

We made like the lyrics of a Fleetwood Mac hit song and went our own ways here.

I wagered 14 points to avoid a tie if he also bet it all, he wagered zero.

Yay I won – or should I say “we” won?

Another spooky theme night is planned 7 pm Tuesday, October 14 at Sticks – and this one is about the Hocus Pocus franchise.

That’s a nope for me!
