It was an almost anticlimactic semifinals scene with only five teams showing up to play!
Plus a couple of “spectating” trivia teams.
What? You didn’t think that trivia was a spectator sport? Of COURSE it is!
More exciting than sportsball!
Though we’d like to think that maybe the other teams were scared off by the competition, let’s get back to reality!

It was most likely the University of Michigan homecoming game keeping other teams away on this unseasonably warm fall afternoon.
Seriously how much longer am I going to be wearing shorts this year? π
Without burying the lede any deeper, yes, we qualified for the My Trivia Live finals!
Special thanks to Kim S. and Cathy F. from team Sparty On for helping out Mike and I at this game. It was truly poetry in motion to watch the two of them working their butts off on a draft picks question in round six. Amazingly, they did come up with the name of a first round draft pick, but not for the right team π’
It was still far better than the “nope” guess that Mike and I would have had to put in as a guess!
This was precisely why I wanted two players from the same team to join us. Longtime trivia teammates always seem to have the…je ne sais quoi – or in English “knack” for being able to work together battling trivia questions. It’s always good when you have an idea of what your teammates’ trivia strengths and weaknesses are.
Other teams qualifying for finals at our bar were Happy Accidents and Better Late than Pregnant.
Here were our abbreviated questions:
Round One
War – The Battle of Yorktown was the final decisive final battle of what war?
Science – What six letter element has an atomic number of 6?
Medical TV – What medical drama airing from 1994-2009 kept the same 10 pm time slot for its entire run?
So far so good…
Round Two
Desserts – In 1996, what specific item became the official dessert of Massachusetts?
Under Pressure – Tire pressure gauges measurements in what units?
Pixar Characters – What niche character introduced in Toy Story 4 said “I am not a toy, I can be used for soup, salad, maybe chili then the trash? Kim came up with the right guess, but committee thinking stymied that…Miss.
Round Three
Celebrity Quotes – Full disclosure, bear with me here, I didn’t get this quote down in its entirety and could not find the quote online. So here goes:
What is the name of the half of a singing duo engaged in a recent falling out who said that it “wasn’t about the money” and mentioned it being about the days when “Daryl and I singing at our best?”
Food – what cooking item derives its name from the words “sauce pan” and can also describe the food commonly cooked in the pan?
Later, I remembered having this question at a semifinal back game in December, 2018 at Bobby Mcshanes in Sumpter Township (I was just a spectator at this game).
Psychology – What is the first of the five stages of grief as mentioned in the book by Elisabeth KΓΌbler-Ross?
I’ve mentioned before that these five stages can also apply to morning fights with the alarm! Especially those 11 years that I had to work at 6 am! π΄π€ π

Halftime – Presidential Programs
Given the name of the presidential program identify the presidents launching them.
New Deal, Fair Deal, Square Deal, Great Society
A bit of wrangling and not 100 percent certainty in a couple of these, but luck was on our side – we got all of these for 10 points!
We’ll need those points for the second half [SPOILER]! π
Halftime scores:
Dead Guys, 24; Happy Accidents, 26; Better Late Than Pregnant, 30; Detroit Institute of (Didn’t write down the whole name), 32 and Pods (us), 36.
Round Four
States – What southern US state is the largest producer of rice? miss.
Slang – What is “props” short for when one says “give props?”
2000s Movies – This is super abbreviated – what singer appears in a cameo role in the 2001 comedy film Saving Silverman?
Yes this was my “triviagasm” moment! I started writing my answer on the slip before Stacy finished reading the question. Then I started singing “I am, I said.” JK! I wasn’t quite THAT drunk! π
Atwater Dirty Blonde is a nice, light day drinking beer for a summer day – in October! π
Had Dave been playing with us in this game, he would join in on singing songs by this person!

Now for some fails for us! Are you sure you want to keep reading?
Round Five
Museums – What is the full name of the museum which is home to Nighthawks, The Old Guitarist and American Gothic? Miss.
Maybe I should have paid better attention the last time I watched Ferris Bueller’s Day Off? π£
Authors – Who wrote Moll Flanders? This is heavily abbreviated… Miss. Second time we’ve missed a question about this author! Do I need to read his Wikipedia entry?
Country Music – Who had a #1 hit with the song Grundy County Auction?
Yay for Kim here! π
Round Six
Multi Sport Athletes – What 1993 Heisman Trophy winner played football at Florida State and later was a first round 26th overall draft pick for the New York Knicks?
Our guess was close, we picked a player drafted that same year…this was ALL Kim and Cathy – but he was not multi sport, and wrong team (nice effort though)!
Just when my husband Mike started saying that he wasn’t contributing enough to the game, we get this question:
Celebrity Milestones – What has Justin Timberlake done five times, Scarlett Johansson done seven times and Tom Hanks done 10 times?
I did not write down the last person, but I did find another person who makes this correct.
Mike came up with right guess here (good job π)!
Math – A “sum” is the result of what math function?
Easy softball to end the round…
Scores: Dead Guys, 42; Detroit Institute, 46; Happy Accidents, 52; Pods/Better Late Than Pregnant, 56 (tied).
Final Category – Innovators
What American innovator was born to parents Joanne Schieble, a European American, and Abdulfattah Jandali, a Syrian, and was adopted as a baby, growing up in Mountain View, CA?
Got this, wagered strategically, so did the team tied with us.
Teams advancing: Happy Accidents, 104; Pods, 105; Pregnant, 111.
Our next trivia outing will be a Sporcle Events music quiz game Monday. As always, Go Pods, and stay classy, Steve Jobs!
