If there were a theme song for our most recent trivia night? It would be Grover Washington/Bill Withers’ song “Just the Two of Us.”
Mainly because of the lyrics “We can make it if we try!”
If this makes you think of the Austin Powers scene with Mini Me, that’s also OK!

RIP Vern Troyer! Yet another famous little person who died by suicide 😔
For all of the bickering that is par for the course for any long time married couple, there were also some great moments of teamwork and high-fiving! We were one of two teams getting a question right about a 2004 movie that had this guy in it…

We managed to finish in third with a $10 prize. We lost out on second place by not being close enough to knowing how old Joe Montana is. Damn…I’m usually pretty decent on guessing when celebrities were born! I was 11 years off this time (I am SO off the team for this)!
As it turns out, which I’m only realizing while typing this – I was thinking of Joe Namath, not Joe Montana. In this case, my answer of 1945 was only two years off from the correct guess!
I guess I get to stay on the team then? Maybe just brush up on football quarterbacks named Joe?
Let’s move on to some abbreviated questions, shall we?
Round One
Terms – What is the more common name for the season of Autumn?
Games – “Cavity Sam” is the name of the fellow with the body in what battery operated game?
NFL – What position did Joe Montana play when he played for the San Francisco 49ers? Good thing he played the same position as the other Joe I was thinking of! 😂
Round Two
Slogans – What soft drink used the slogan “The choice of a new generation?”

Singers – Who was the lead singer of the 80s new wave band The Culture Club?
In the Kitchen – Sometimes referred to as a sugar cookie, what is the longer name for a cookie with a cracked surface that is rolled in sugar and cinnamon before baking?
Round Three
Science – What pigment decreases in autumn causing leaves to change color?
Magazines – From 1911-2021 when it changed its name, Boys Life magazine was published by what organization?

Measurements – How many liquid ounces are in three quarters of a cup?
Halftime – Given the names and release years of songs including the word “walk,” name the artists.
H1 – Walk This Way, 1975
H2 Walk, 1993
H3 Walking on Sunshine, 1985
H4 Walking After Midnight, 1957
Missed #2 and #4.
Halftime scores:
Spacecats, 27; Dead Guys/Quizzy McQuizface, 29; Pursuit of O Snappiness/Titanic Swim Team, 30; Pods/Nope, 31; Hungry/Ypsi Starlings Rugby, 33; Pants, 37.
Round Four
Famous Photos – The historic 1945 photo captioned “Kissing the War Goodbye” was taken at what famous location?
Greek Mythology – Who is the Greek goddess of the harvest? We’ve missed this question in past trivia games, it’s nice when we learn from our mistakes!
Toys – What handheld digital toy was housed in a small egg shaped device and has been marketed since 1996?
Round Five
Brands – Based in Illinois, what brand is the leading producer of canned pumpkin?
15th Century Business – What is the two-word term describing the widespread transfer of diseases, plants and animals between thenew world and old world in the late 15th century? We used our “freebie” answer here to avoid having to actually know this. Even when the answer was revealed, neither of us had ever heard of it.
Inspired Movies – What 2004 film was based on accounts by Frank T. Hopkins of his life as an American cowboy? We knew it wasn’t the Ang Lee movie (wrong year), but we didn’t know right away what it was. When my husband said “That’s right around when Lord of the Rings” came out, an alarm dinged in my brain. Not enough to know the actual name, but I remembered horse racing in the desert, and when I said that, Mike knew the name. Isn’t it awesome when things like this happen in trivia games? 🤛
Round Six
Comic Book Characters – Created in 1936, what character lived in Skull Cave, had no superpowers and had a trained wolf named Devil and a horse named hero?
Unlike the previous question which inspired great teamwork, this one was ALL Mike. I said to him “This is all you or nobody, buddy!” No pressure or anything, right? Thankfully he was able to wrangle this one out of his brain!
Famous Phrases – What independent agency uses the phrase “Neither snow nor rain nor gloom of night…?”
Stadiums – What university plays its home games in a stadium nicknamed “The Big House?”
Scores heading into the final:
Spacecats, 49; Dead Guys, 57; Nope, 59; Pursuit of O Snappiness/Titanic Swim Team, 60; Hungry/Quizzy McQuizface, 61; Pods/Ypsi Starlings Rugby, 67 and Pants, 69.
Final Question Category – Directors
More famous for his marriage, what director’s debut film was Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and more recently the live action version of Aladdin?
We were in a tiebreaker for second with Ypsi Starlings Rugby, and we had to give what year Joe Montana was born. Which we flunked because I put in my guess for what year Joe Namath was born instead (had that been the question we might have won). Oh well, no crying in trivia, right?
We may check out a new to us trivia spot next week! How exciting, right? It’s all part of our “fly casual” end of the year trivia plan!
As always, Go Pods, and stay classy, Joe Montana! Or Joe Namath 😂
