Trivia Recap – August 5, 2025 – McShane’s Pub – My Trivia Live – Ypsilanti, MI

Isn’t she adorable? 🥰

Season Two of “Wednesday” drops today on Netflix, so we all have better things to do today than to write – and read – trivia recaps, so I’m going to keep this one nice and short…and sweet – like Miss Wednesday Addams herself!

Yes, I know that she would NOT want to be called “Miss.” Maybe “Madame” would be more her speed?

No prizes for us, 62 points, we had a “guest” player named Joel help us out from team “Pants.” Nice to have someone else to talk to at a trivia game besides each other for once – especially someone who adores the movie LA Story as much as we do!

Years ago, we used to do weekly trivia battles with Team “Pants,” who always incorporated the word “pants” into their team name. And they still do that now.

Both of our teams used to regularly dominate the trivia scene at the Wurst Bar, which hasn’t offered trivia nights for several years. We also have, on average, half as many players as we did back then, and the Wurst Bar is half its original size! The other half is a weed dispensary now. Sign ‘O The Times?

Sounds better if Prince sings it!

Let’s get on to some abbreviated questions (answers at the end).

Round One

Fictional Characters – What title character learns of his acceptance to a school for wizards when he is 11?

Measurements – Developed in 1934, the Richter Scale measures the intensity of what?

Logos – What onamotopaeia word would eventually become Nike’s logo?

Round Two

Disney – Tim Burton directed a live action version of what Disney classic animated film in 2019?

Definitions – Dentifrice is defined as a powdered paste or liquid used to clean what?

Rocks – Used in gas grills and to smooth out rough skin, what is the only igneous rock known to float?

Round Three

Art – The pigment known as aquamarine is derived from what semiprecious stone? Miss. Mental note, study up on pigments, this question writer seems to like asking about those lately!

Science – What scientist introduced the color wheel in his 1704 book Optics? Nice hit from our “guest” player!

Homophones – What is a word for a braid and also a homophone for a type of dish? Another hit from our “guest” player Joel!

Halftime – Business

Name four of the six U.S. companies with the highest revenue in 2024, per Forbes:

We got four of these correct.

Halftime scores: Dead Guys, 24; Rather Be At, 29; Spacecats/Matty Platters/Three, 30; We Were Never Here, 32; and Pods (us), 36. We actually decided to use our normal team name in this game for once!

Round Four

Fractions – What fraction was used to describe the value of an enslaved person in a 1787 compromise?

Reality TV – What two-word phrase was used to describe the “least amount” on a reality show about a farm in the British Cotswolds region? Miss, we knew “diddly squat” here…

State Laws  – What is the only state that mandates full service gas pumps at its fueling stations? Miss, we discussed two options, picked the wrong one (classic Pods maneuver)!

Round Five

Geographic Same Name – Cabo Verde’s largest island and most populous city shares its name with what capital in South America? We picked a South American capital, but not the right one.

Laws (again?) – What was the name for the law that Provided Appropriate Tools to Intercept and Obstruct Terrorism? I’ve capitalized that for a reason, we used our “freebie” option to avoid answering this one (really we should have noticed the letters here, d’oh)!

Oscars – What is the most recent film to win best picture, best director, best actor/actress and best screenplay? Released in 1991.

Round Six

On Stage – Lard being the main ingredient, what lubricant is associated with a common makeup used in theatrical productions?

New In Vegas – What Mattel game is the focus of a social non-betting lounge in the Palms casino in Las Vegas? We considered the right game, but nope, it didn’t end up on our slips (oops)!

The Calendar – How many months in the calendar end in the letter Y?

Scores heading into the final: Dead Guys, 52; Rather Be At, 61; Pods/We Were Never Here, 62; Matty Platters/Three/Spacecats – tied for first with 64.

Video Games  – Originally created to help developers, the “Plum Bob” (no idea if this is spelled correctly) is a distince character indicator seen over the last 25 years in what video game franchise?

Nope for us…Final scores – three teams tied for first.

Tiebreaker results: Spacecats, 3; Three, second, Matty Platters, first.

We may be out for one more trivia bout this week, that is TBD. As always, Go Pods, and stay classy, Isaac Newton!
