We’d almost forgotten what it was like to win a prize in a trivia game! We won a second place/$20 prize on a very…sultry evening at McShane’s Pub. Our first trivia prize since June 17!
Maybe when you think of “sultry” you think of the 1981 Kathleen Turner/William Hurt noir thriller Body Heat.

No, no…it wasn’t like that! It was just that the AC went out at McShane’s, so things got a little… sticky. Glad I kept my outfit loose and breezy – and I just happened to have some portable mini fans in my car, which were in there because we went camping last weekend, and I haven’t unloaded the trunk yet. It’s been too hot to do that π₯΅ (whine)!

I lent both of these to the trivia host Stacy to use during the game! The top one is USB powered, and the bottom one is rechargeable via USB or solar. I had a floor fan blowing on my back for most of the game. It felt kind of nice! π¬οΈ
I’ve kind of become a fan “hoarder” as of late, but that’s another really super boring blog altogether…
Here were our abbreviated questions:
Round One
Breakfast – What breakfast pastry, with origins in Austria, was popularized by bakers in Denmark?
Lunch – Waring, Berkel and Globe are among the brand names making what type of device that when used in a deli, can replace a human with a knife?

Art School – An artist places paints of different colors on what handheld flat item?
Classic Cartoons – What is the last name of Betty and Barney, who live next door to Fred and Wilma Flintstone?
Round Three
Movies – What long anticipated sequel to a 1987 film convinced actor Rick Moranis to reprise his role as Dark Helmet?
Shakespeare – What Shakespeare tragedy opens with the line “Two households, both alike in dignity?”
Racing – After the 60 meter sprint was retired in 1904, what is the shortest distance race in Olympic track and field events? Miss.

Clearly track and field is not something we know much about!
Round Four
Music Awards – In 2024, Nicki Minaj received what network’s hip-hop award for Album of the Year for Pink Friday 2? Good guess from us (whew).
Sports Cities – The pro baseball Hall of Fame is located in which city in Otsego County, NY? It’s so nice when we can use full points on a question about… sports! Yay for me having some sports general knowledge!
Puzzles – What is a five-letter word for a word puzzle that uses phrases represented by pictures? We knew what these were, just couldn’t think of the name for them…miss.
Round Five
Festivals – Described as the “World’s Largest Food Fight,” what food is the focus of an annual festival in Bunol Spain? We actually saw a scene involving this annual food fight very recently in the Prime movie “Heads of State” starring John Cena and Idris Elba. It has an “Odd Couple” vibe with the two stars, who play the U.S. president (Cena) and the British prime minister (Elba), I couldn’t help but wonder if the two agreed to do this movie because they enjoyed working together in “Suicide Squad?” It’s a fun movie with lots of action, great to watch on a hot day when you’re stuck inside the air conditioning! And Jack Quaid is also in it! You know – Meg Ryan and Dennis Quaid’s son, who’s been in lots of stuff lately? I think he looks more like his mama!
Catchphrases – Coined in 1992, what catchphrase for a livestock and meat board is still used as the URL for this council? We picked the one for the “other” meat board, miss.
Science – John Flamsteed, Edmond Halley and Nevil Maskelyne have all served in what science position for the British crown? We used our “answer of the day” freebie to avoid having to answer this one.
Round Six
Vacations – National Geographic offers legendary 12-day rail trips along what route starting in Vladivostok and ending in Moscow?
D&D – In Dungeons and Dragons, a Tiamat is a five-headed what? It’s not often we get trivia questions in this category, it was definitely a “nerd boys unite” moment in the bar! πΒ After the game, my husband said, “She’s not only a five-headed (blank), but she’s also a goddess.” Well then – move over, Athena!
Same Name – What is the first name shared by presidents Washington and both presidents Bush?
Scores heading into the final: Titanic Swim Team, 58; Nope, 59; Ypsi Starlings Rugby, 60; Keeping up with the Joneses, 63; War Squids (Pods), 66 and Spacecats, 67.
Final Category: TV Records
David Genat made TV history by winning $5.8 million on what game show inspired reality series?
Game winners – Keeping up with the Joneses, 63; War Squids, 66; Spacecats, 67.
No more trivia for us this week. Next week TWO music trivia games in two different leagues are planned as well as a McShane’s trivia game.
As always Go Pods, and stay classy, Nicki Minaj!
