Trivia Recap – July 22, 2025 – McShane’s Pub – My Trivia Live – Ypsilanti, MI

Scroll to the end for the answers.

We’d like to dedicate the most recent trivia game that we played to Ozzy Osbourne, who died earlier that day (Tuesday, July 22) at the age of 76.

My husband Mike and I learned of his death by…listening to the radio! Seriously – how often do any of you get your news that way these days? It’s all so social media or news feed dominated, isn’t it? I guess some people get their news from TV too!

At least three of my friends learned of his death by getting text messages from…me!

I’d like to think that Mr. Osbourne would have liked for his fans to find out about his passing by listening to the radio! And boy oh boy – the rock radio stations did NOT disappoint that afternoon (playlists and song requests not being Ozzy or Black Sabbath be damned)! It was truly a great day to listen to the radio!  🎢 😍 🎧

The radio station we learned the news from was Q100 (100.3) in Grayling, MI. When that station faded out, we picked up Z93 WKQZ (93.3) in Saginaw, and when that faded out, we found Fox 103.9 in Flint, and finally on the last leg of the trip – we tuned into WLLZ 106.7 in Detroit, which  continued playing Ozzy and Black Sabbath up until midnight (great job, guys, those Eddie Money song requests could definitely be put on hold)!

We really wanted to be able to listen to the all-Ozzy hour that all radio stations seemed to coordinate between the hours of 5 and 6 p.m., which just happened to be right around when we arrives at our home in Ypsilanti, MI!

Maybe the song “Mama, I’m Coming Home” is a fitting memorial for him? πŸ€”  I’d like to think so!

In other Ozzy related trivia news, I saw on Facebook this morning that the Sporcle Events host Wild Bill will be playing nothing but Ozzy and Black Sabbath songs at his shows all this week! He hosts 7 p.m. Wednesdays at the 3 Nicks Taproom in Southgate, and 7 p.m. Thursdays at the Lagerhouse #5 in Detroit. Those shows are a bit far for us to drive to, but…tempting!

We continued our streak of not winning any trivia prizes! We also are just barely out of the top two non-barhop spots in terms of scores. We’ll continue to fight until it’s time to say “f— it!” Maybe we’ll be like those people on the Titanic who rearranged deck chairs as it sank – or updated the steerage menu while it sank!

We used the Ozzy themed team name “Cthulhu, I’m Coming Home” and the league team Pants also used an Ozzy “I’m Coming Home (or was it Iron Pants)” themed name. Trivia host Stacy played some Ozzy songs.

There were some pretty tricky questions in this game! You know it’s rough when on a very competitive night with some really good teams, the high score is only 60!

Here were the really abbreviated questions:

Round One

Acronyms – What does the “s” stand for in NASA?

Art – What Renaissance artist painted The Last Judgment in the Sistine Chapel?

Words – What four-letter word describes both a highland dance and a spool of line on a fishing rod?

Round Two

Airplanes – The Northrup B-2 Sprint is often referred to as what two-word name? Miss.

Abbreviations – What does the letter “i” stand for in the abbreviation CGI?

Book Trilogies – What is the name of the female archer protagonist in the book series The Hunger Games?

Round Three

Famous Family – Zoe Kravitz is the daughter of singer Lenny Kravitz and what actress, best known for her work on The Cosby Show?

Deniro in Angel Heart (more about this in a bit)

What, she’s not best known for being one of John Cusack’s ex girlfiends in High Fidelity? Or for her role in that 1987 Robert Deniro movie Angel Heart?

There were some pretty racy sex scenes in that one! Also not to give away the plot if you haven’t seen it, but Deniro plays a great Prince  of Darkness in this one. You can fight me if you want, but even with the little screen time he has in this movie, he still makes an impact much greater than that of his longtime acting rival Al  Pacino, who played Satan in The Devil’s Advocate. Sometimes subtlety is the way to go (something Pacino, as great of an actor that he is, he’s not exactly known for his subtle approach to acting).

Oh yeah, this actress also married Aquaman! Unsure if they’re still married (celebrity marriages can be short lived).

Culture – Silviculture is the practice of growing and tending what living things? Miss.

States – What state is  known as “The Equality State” and was the first to allow women the right to vote?

Halftime – Exports

Name four of the five US states with the highest volume of exports by millions of dollars.

We named two correct states. No teams named more than two correct states, and we all picked the same ones! All in this sinking ship together? πŸ˜€

Halftime scores – Milk Chocolate, 19; Never Here, 24; Dead Guys/Random Answers, both tied with 26; Pods, 27; Rather Be At, 28; Matty Platters, 29; and tied three ways with 30 points, Iron Pants/Spacecats/Three.

Round Four

Video Games – What compound word can be used to describe “non games” such as Minecraft, which have a high level of creativity but no real predetermined goal? Miss.

World Capitals – Kinshasa is the capital of what African nation? I didn’t know this one right away, so I started writing down the African countries where I knew Kinshasa wasn’t the capital. Somehow this helped us land on the right country (whew what a nail biter)!

Photography – What does F-stop measure in photography? We were “pretty sure” with our answer, which turned out to be correct, but we used our freebie option aka “Answer of the Day” since we didn’t want to risk missing for six. Would we regret this decision later? Yes!

Round Five

Government – In 1934, FDR canceled all government contracts for what service and instead used the US Army? We thought engineering was a good guess because of the Army Corps of Engineers, but nope, we were wrong…

World Capitals – What country changed its capital from Lagos to Abuja in 1991?

Animated Directors – What Japanese director’s films include The Boy and the Heron and Princess Mononoke? Miss.

Round Six

Musicals – What musical holds the record for winning the most Tony Awards with 10 for its original version and seven for its 2008 revival? Unsure if any teams got this one correct (we incorrectly guessed Hairspray). Had the year of the original been given, then maybe we could have at least gotten closer in our guess? πŸ€”

Cabinet – Tom Ridge was the first head of what new cabinet department and was appointed in 2003?

Presidents – Vladimir Putin is the president of what country? Lots of joking about the answer being “US” here! πŸ˜‚

Yay we finished with 53 points! Our unlofty goal in each MTL game is to have a score higher than 50 #loweredexpectations

Scores heading into the final:

Milk Chocolate, 41; Random Answers, 46;   Dead Guys, 52; Pods, 53; Pants, 54; Three/ Never Here/Rather Be At, tied with 58; Matty Platters, 59 and in first was Spacecats with 60.

Final Category – Automobiles

The first replaceable oil filter as standard equipment in a vehicle was offered for the first time by what company in the 1920s?

We guessed a company that would later be a part of the correct company, so no go. No teams got this, zero wagers prevailed (we only bet eight points which would have worked had we got it right).

Teams Never Here and Rather Be At were in a tiebreaker for second and had to answer which year was the founding of NASA.

Game winners – Rather Be At, third; Never Here, second and Spacecats, first.

Unsure if we plan to play any more trivia games this week, that is TBD. As always, Go Pods and stay classy, Ozzy Osbourne (RIP you crazy man)!
