I played in a Sporcle Events venue tournament in Ypsilanti, MI tonight. We had no horse in the race, we were just pretty much playing as spectators.
The team that dominated in 10 out of the 18 games tonight DIDN’T win the game tonight! This was one of the things that I was hoping for tonight.
My other “goals,” such as they were – were to use our previously won gift cards (done and done), and for us to not totally f— up on the dreaded potentially game-destroying mystery rounds. And we did fairly well on them! Recap posted Monday.
I’m happy to have seen teams that didn’t dominate all season not win the final games this past week (well, mostly, anyway π). It’s always nice to mix things up, isn’t it?
I’m in talks with a friend to see whose team gets to RSVP for the Globe Games first. If it’s my team, I’m going to let her pick what spot/day she wants for our team and let her use my spot (a couple of our key players will be absent that weekend). If she gets first pick, she can pick the spot she wants and I’ll pick a spot for a different day – with the hopes that she’ll be able to field a team that day under our name.
There are a lot of “what ifs,” and uncertainty about whether she’ll be able to field two teams that weekend.
All I know is that the two times I’ve sat out trivia tournaments over the past decade-ish – the players who did wind up playing in our stead won prize money (in January, 2013 and December, 2016). Yeah yeah… I know what you’re thinking – don’t even say it! π In January, 2013, I heard the news about my team winning a couple of prize bucks while I was on a sledding hill near Houghton, MI. I was using a flip π€³ at the time at my niece’s birthday party!
In December, 2016 I had to sub out my entire team when two trivia to-dos were scheduled the same day (MTL semis and the Sporcle league championship). We chose to play the semis (yes we advanced).Β I let our “stunt doubles” keep 80 percent of the prize that they won. I’m still on friendly terms with them.
As for this time? Que sera, sera! We’ll see what happens π€
