The two “core” playas on my ‘Pods trivia team will be MIA for the upcoming Sporcle Events Globe Games.
It’s “possible” that I may have players to sit in for us that weekend. Stay tuned!
If that doesn’t happen, we might try doing a virtual game that weekend.
We’ve known for months that we wouldn’t be around for the Globe Games. Last December, I booked a cabin trip for the weekend of Juneteenth, since my husband gets that as a paid holiday at his job.
Booking campsites and cabins in Michigan State Parks – during peak season is NOT a task for the meek! I was up before 8 am December 19, 2024 when the reservation window opened for campsite and cabin reservations (you can book up to six months in advance). The very second I was logged in, the cabin I wanted as my first choice – and the one right next to it Petoskey State Park – were both already snagged up.
Not deterred, I went to my second choice – Leelanau State Park. Success!
I booked a modern cabin that accommodates four people equipped with electricity, an electric wall heater, a mini fridge, and microwave. No showers or modern restrooms, but we’re seasoned campers, we can deal with it! I just found our solar shower in the garage.
Cabins at this park are also difficult to book, so I was happy to be able to get it! It’s a very beautiful area at the tip of a peninsula surrounded by Lake Michigan, about 40 minutes or so north of Traverse City.
Unlike Petoskey State Park Leelanau State Park is NOT located right next to a busy road. So win-win?
Yes, I did give some thought to trying to get back home Sunday in time to play a Globe Game! π
Crazier things have happened with my trivia team – like that time in 2017 we drove home from Virginia – so that one of our players wouldn’t have to play solo at the Wurst Bar! Or drove home to SE Michigan from the far reaches of Michigan’s s Upper Peninsula to play in a semifinal in 2012!
Occasionally there are things in my life more important than trivia π
