Trivia Plans Week of June 2, 2025

Exciting news the first week of June, 2025 for the Pods! Well, not really.

First off, we’ll do music trivia Monday at Corner Brewery. It’s a fun way for Kim and I to team up with success, though really, she’s the real powerhouse of music 🎢 🎡 knowledge! I just provide the “assist” now and again in her weaker categories like heavy metal and 80s/90s alternative (she doesn’t know the difference between The Cure and the Smiths lol). Our opposite tastes in music are actually a real asset in music trivia!

Wednesday, we’ll do a two-hour virtual Sporcle Events game. I already have two other players besides my husband and I saying “yes” to the virtual meetup!

It’s the Sporcle Events venue tournament week next week, so this will be a great way to see the questions and play without having anything on the line. Most importantly, virtual games are great for being able to dress super casual! Who doesn’t love trivia in their jammies?

Good luck to team Derecho in Minnesota! I hear they’ll be playing in their first Globe Games soon. πŸ™ As their name suggests, they’re an all meteorologist trivia team (yes really). I hope conditions are great for their success!

We haven’t been in contention this year at any Sporcle Events spots. That’s because we knew early on that we wouldn’t be in town for the end of season Globe Games.

We’ve snuck into a few Sporcle Events spots like thieves in the night this past season – and there was that one time that we got super lucky at the Ypsi Alehouse back in  January and won back-to-back first place prizes! It was January 12 if you want to look that up.

We even paid a visit to Oscar’s once, a place we used to play semi regularly before plague. It’s very rare when Saturday games actually work with my schedule.

We also plan to play at McShane’s for a My Trivia Live game next week. That remains a “regular” spot for us until we decide that it… isn’t anymore.

Standings are tight at McShanes right now, with just one point dividing first and second and three points dividing third and fourth place. It’s still anyone’s game – until it isn’t.

In other news, Terry R., a follower of this blog and spokesperson for the longtime trivia team You’re Resume Sucks, has informed me about positive changes in the trivia scene at Corner Brewery in Ypsilanti.

One, he says the new host Ben, a former Jeopardy! champion, is doing a great job as the new host. He  walks around the room to make sure players don’t cheat (more about that in a bit), can command a mic well and be understood, and has a strict “no phones out during the final question” policy. I guess he also plays decent music.

When Terry asked if we’d be willing to come back there to play? As of now, my answer is “no.” Maybe only occasionally if my husband and I feel like it, but honestly – I just don’t have enough players to compete with the other giant teams who play there – including, but not limited to – You’re Resume Sucks.

I also heard that a team got caught cheating there last season. I have an idea who it may have been, since there is a team notably absent this season that did well last season, but I’m going to chat up a couple of players from Don’t forget To Strip Your Bartender at music trivia next Monday to see if they know more. Unless I hear something back from Terry first!

Could a weekend trivia game be a possibility? We’ll see! I do have the weekend off.

That’s all I have for now. Over and out!
