Trivia Recap – May 29, 2025 – McShane’s Pub – My Trivia Live – Ypsilanti, MI

Scroll to the end for the answers…

We didn’t manage to get out to McShane’s for our trivia fix at all during the week leading into Memorial Day weekend, so we thought we’d double team it there this week!

Not the filthy “double team!” Get that mind out of the gutter, you! 😉

We did manage to post a score for that week anyway, thanks to the My Trivia Live league allowing teams to, once a season, substitute a score from an alternate spot at your home bar.

We also wanted to hit up the second night to try for a higher score than we had Tuesday. And let’s not speak of that Tuesday game again…grumble  Sitting Bull not Crazy Horse… AI halftime round busted our balls…49 total stinking points grumble! 😂

Did this recap get just a tad too “stream of consciousness” just now?🤔

As for the game, we managed 58 points on our second try of the week, so I’ll take it!

Sadly, no prizes this time. Shout out to teams I’d Rather Be At and Ypsi Starlings for posting the highest scores of the week (70 Tuesday and 67 Thursday respectively).

Here were our abbreviated questions:

Round One

U.S. States – What U.S. state’s name means “Land of the Indians?”

Board Games – What Hasbro board game was once called “Criss Cross Words?”

Legends – In legend, Merlin the magician served as counselor to whom?

Round Two

80s Slang – In disgust, ’80s girls would often say “Gag me with” what eating utensil?

Bodies of Water – Nantucket Sound is part of what state’s geography?

Classic TV – Howard Cunningham was played by Tom Bosley on what classic TV show about the “good old days?”

Round Three

In the Newspaper – Abigail Van Buren, and after her death her daughter Jean – wrote an advice column in newspapers under what pen name?

Horror Movies – What horror movie franchise supposedly ended in 2022 with the 13th installment in the series? Miss. Talked ourselves out of correct guess here.

Time – What unit of time meaning a unit greater than one night has its origins in 1150 and is based on an old English contraction meaning “fourteen of them?”

Halftime – Call Now

Identify the companies based on their toll free numbers used in their advertisements.

H1 877 CASH NOW

H2 800 CALL SAM

H3 800 588 2300

H4 800 ABC DEFG

Got all of these. Put anything in a catchy jingle, and I’m gonna remember it! Even decades later I still remember the phone number for Pizza King in Mount Pleasant (772-9435…best pizza…at Pizza King 🎵 🍕 👑).

Yes, they’re still open and they still have the same phone number!

We were in first at the half with 36 points.

Round Four

Europe – Saxony is part of what European country? There were way more qualifiers to this one…we missed it.

Celebrity Endorsements – Jaclyn Smith endorsed a clothing line at what store starting in 1985?

World Trade – What alliterative and geometric name described the trade between the Americas, Europe and Africa for centuries? We used our answer of the day to avoid having to come up with the correct answer.

Round FIve

Secretaries of State – What secretary of state (seen above) was reported to have said that the Alaskan purchase was his greatest accomplishment, though it would take a generation for America to realize it?

Poets – What poet wrote these lines? “Some say the world will end in fire,
Some say in ice.
From what I’ve tasted of desire
I hold with those who favor fire?” Miss.

Current TV – Rebecca Ferguson and Tim Robbins star in what Apple + series featuring underground dwellers?

Round Six

Olympics – Which Swiss manufacturer of reasonably priced watches was the official timekeeper of Olympics in 1996, 2000 and 2004? The qualifier “reasonably priced” threw us here. I wore a couple of these watches in the 80s, and they were NOT reasonably priced (so much allowance money was blown on these tacky things)! But boy were they waterproof!

Albums – Boulevard of broken Dreams and Wake me Up When September Ends are tracks on what Grammy winning album? Yay I named one album I could think of from this band and it was correct!

Calendar – Exactly how many days are in the month of October?

Scores leading into the final were 41 to 67 with Ypsi Starlings  in first. Please bear with me I didn’t write down every team and score..Spacecats were in second with 66, ??? had 63, we had 58 points, Dead Guys had 54, ??? had 50, ??? had 47 and ??? had 41

Final Category – Film Settings

When a house on Lincoln Avenue in Winnetka, IL sold for $5.5 million in January, 2025, it sparks discussion about how the movie family could afford to live there. Name the movie.

We named a movie all right – but not the correct one.

Had to work early today, so I didn’t write down the game winners, though I heard that the Starlings got first.

We’re figuring out our trivia plan next week. We may play a virtual Sporcle Events game since it’s venue tournament week, we’ll also play at McShane’s at least one night, too.

As always, Go Pods, and stay classy, William Seward!

  1. I only missed seven, but I got the final right. I don’t know new TV, Poetry, Green Day albums well enough and I never heard of Sam Bernstein (He isn’t a thing in Ohio apparently). I guessed Friday the 13th (I figured that was a clue in the question)

    1. Sam Bernstein is a prominent ambulance chaser in MI lol along with Geoffrey Fieger, whom is the brother of Doug Fieger with the band The Knack. Now you have “My Sharona” in your head don’t you? 😂
