So What’s Our Next Trivia Move?

I just found out the current season dates for My Trivia Live and the next season dates for the Sporcle Events league…so we have some decisions to make!

The current MTL season began April 14 and runs through September 7, with semifinals October 3 – and finals October 10.

The new Sporcle Events league begins June 23 and ends November 16 with Globe Games December 6-7.

Does anyone else miss the shorter trivia seasons before the plague? No? Just me πŸ₯Ί

I’m not complaining – I know the trivia companies gotta do what they gotta do.

My trivia pardner slash husband and I are discussing what we want to do for the second half of the year. We don’t really know how committed we’re willing to be in either trivia league for tournament qualifying purposes.

We’re taking an “if it happens organically” approach. We don’t want a leisure pursuit to become a chore at any point. That takes the fun out of it for us. Different strokes for different folks. I know of quite a few trivia teams that play several times a week. Years ago, we were one of those teams. Stepping back in my trivial pursuits has improved nearly every aspect of my life. What works for us might not work for everyone. I respect that – and totally understand why it can be addictive. No judgment whatsoever from me!

Honestly, I didn’t mean for what I just said to sound like something a person in an A.A. meeting would say! Though I guess I am a recovering trivia junkie πŸ€” Just last night, I was in a bar and guessing the years different celebrities were born and using Google to see how close my guesses were (one day at a time…one day at a time):

Is David Crosby still alive? Nope, he died in 2023.

Anyway…now that I see the MTL scores, we’re not doing badly at McShane’s so far. We’re currently in third place behind two teams tied for second (not counting the two barhop teams in the top ten barhop right now).

It’s hard to say whether we’ll be able to finish in the top two at the end. Being only five games in, it’s too early to tell. Last season, neither of the top two finishing teams qualifying for semis had played every single week. About that…

Tonight, we’re taking the night off from  trivial pursuits since we’re playing Thursday “Up North.” That’s Michigan speak for basically anyplace north of where you are. What defines it to you depends upon perspective. For me, it’s anything north of Clare if traveling by 27, or West Branch if traveling by I-75. If heading north on 131, Big Rapids is a good springboard to “Up North.”

That last place is where we’ll be Thursday night – if all goes well!
