I’ve decided that my trivia team is going to try playing weekly games for this trivia season at least until Memorial Weekend just to see whether we’re sinking, swimming, or getting devoured by predators!
All I need to see are the scores! My expectations are…quite low.
We’ve been pretty commitment phobic about establishing “regular” trivia spots since the plague, so this is kind of a big deal for us that we’re putting in some effort! Ever hear about canaries in a coal mine? Or the Police song “Canary in a Coal Mine?” Some lyrics are: “First to fall over when the atmosphere is less than perfect/Your sensibilities are shaken by the slightest defect.”
Sounds kind of like my team! We took a month long break from a trivia spot when two different teams wrongfully accused us of cheating. I flat out quit a trivia spot indefinitely when one of my players had what I believe was a panic – or anxiety attack – from the noisy, crowded atmosphere. Noisy and crowded atmospheres in trivia don’t really rattle me and my “power through it” sensibilities, but it was a wake up call. Different strokes for different folks, I guess. I prefer not to judge people, everyone is fighting a battle that you know nothing about.
I was having to go to significant effort to hustle enough players to succeed at this bar anyway, so I’ll say…
“Non, je ne regrette rien.”
I regret nothing!
