Trivia Recap – April 9, 2025 – Bobby McShane’s – Belleville, MI – My Trivia Live

It was very, very interesting that in the same trivia night that we had a question about celestial alignments – that two different trivia companies decided to quiz their players about…(cue up dramatic movie music composed by Monty Normam)

“Bond…James Bond.”

Just like James Bond must make earth shattering choices that could end up with him either saving the world – or watching its destruction – our choice in trivia shows proved disastrous – when it came to picking the right one to come up with a correct answer about…

“Bond…James Bond.”

Our James Bond question in the MTL game was a final question about a specific thing in a specific movie. A trivia compadre playing in a Sporcle Events show in MIlan said that they had a mystery round about…

“Bond…James Bond.” Their question involved knowing the number of movies that starred Roger Moore as James Bond. Seriously – I’ll stop with the “Bond…James Bond” thing starting…now!

We were off by one movie in our guess about a specific type of technology Bond used in a particular film, but I would have known how many movies starred Roger Moore (who was my favorite Bond, although Timothy Dalton’s Bond was, supposedly closest in personality to the Bond that writer Ian Fleming intended him to be). How about his villainous turn in “1923?” Ewww! Way too much choke sex! It was starting to look like an “Archer” episode with Cheryl’s fantasies coming true!

As for the game, we didn’t win any prizes, but finished with a respectable 56 points. We decided to visit a different trivia spot than we normally play because MTL has “bye weeks,” which we think is a perfect opportunity to seek out different scenes. How wonderful to not see anyone we recognized, besides one of the servers that used to work at a bar in Ypsilanti.

Drinks were very reasonably priced at Bobby McShane’s! We opted for the “whiskey Wednesday” special, which made us reminisce about when a local bar called the Wurst Bar used to do whiskey specials on their Wednesday trivia nights. I was working 6 a.m. shifts at the time, so yeah…some of my post trivia game mornings were a bit…rough!

If whiskey isn’t your thing, all of the draft choices – including a Blake’s hard cider – were just $5!

My “whiskey and soda.” Irish blue-eyed soil singer Hozier may take his whiskey neat, but I’ll take mine watered down with ice and club soda. Ginger ale and 7-up are too sweet for me, lol!

Here were our abbreviated questions:

Round One

The Law – The police can legally serach one’s home or business if they obtain what document?

Blended Words – The word “fantabulous” is a blend of what two words?

Same Name – What waterfowl is also a word meaning “to lower the head?”

Round Two

Departments – Flathead and Pickhead are kinds of axe that are the first choice of what Los Angeles department?

Song Lyrics – The lyrics in a song by the group Bobby Fuller Four mention “I (blank) the law but the law won?”

Literary Characters – Josephine, Margaret, Elizabeth and Amy are the full names of what novel’s title characters?

Round Three

TV Remakes – Will Ferrell starred in a film remake of what prehistoric TV series featuring characters named Dr. Rick, Holly and Will?

Baseball – MLB spring training happens in two leagues – the Cactus League in Arizona, and what fruity named league in Florida? Picked the wrong fruit, first miss of the game.

NASA – Launched by NASA, what was the United States’ first space station?

Halftime – Kids’ Songs

Identify the following kids’ songs based on a sample of the lyrics:

1 Hi-ho, the derry-o…

2 One a penny, two a penny…

3 Which finger did it bite? The little finger on the right…

4 They jumped so high high high they reached the sky sky sky…

Missed 3 and 4.

There were six teams playing – PB&J were in fifth with 21 points, Six Shooters were in fourth with 23, Four Score was in third with 25, Happy Campers and Pods (us) were in second with 31, and Woomps were in first with 31 (apologies for any misspelled or incomplete team names, we are not regulars at this bar and I am inherently lazyπŸ¦₯)!

Moving on to the second half…what kind of disasters await us? Spoiler, you won’t have to wait long – round four will be a near doozy!

Are you sure you want to read on?

Round Four

Cocktail – The classic Finnish long drink is a blend of citrus soda and what spirit? My sister in law brought the canned variety of this to Thanksgiving a few years ago. It tasted like Fresca (the only diet soda that to me, tastes good).

New Music – What singer’s 2025 album has a song called “Zombie Boy?” Miss. We put “Not Taylor Swift” as our answer out of desperation.

Science – What is the name for when a moon, sun and earth are nearly aligned in a straight line? After a bit of discussion with my husband, our host decided to give points for anyone putting down the answer that MTL wanted – and also “eclipse.”

Round Five

Historical Movies – What specific English king was played by Colin Firth in The King’s Speech?

Writers – Awards piled up for what writer who wrote The Year of Magical Thinking which reflected upon her husband’s death? We incorrectly guessed J.K. Rowling.

Inventors – What was the last name of Michel and Jacque, who invented the first practical hot air balloon? No idea, we used our freebie answer here.

Round Six

Actresses – Hannah Waddingham played the mother witch in Hocus Pocus 2 and also what bossy character in “Ted Lasso?” A couple sitting next to us at the bar who weren’t playing said her name aloud and…we want with it. It sounds like they watched that series more recently than we had!

Nobel Laureates – What religious leader of South Africa won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1984 for his non-violent work in dismantling Apartheid?

England – What is the name of the official residence of the British royal family?

Scores leading into final: Happy Campers, 46; PB&J/Four Score, 47; Six Shooters/Six Feet Under, 49; Pods, 56; and Woomps, 57.

Final Category – James Bond

The fictional Sony Ericsson JB 988 mobile device was used in what James Bond film – the first to feature James Bond using a cell phone?

We picked a film featuring the right James Bond actor, but not the right film. I can’t believe we guessed too early on a question like this, usually we guess too late! Didn’t wager it all, but close to all (different trivia spot, bye week, so what the hey).

No prizes for us – Four Score, Six Feet Under and Woomps took prizes.

We may be playing at our regular spot tonight (that is TBD). Someone who normally plays with me is being kind of cranky right now about flex spending account idiocy, snow in April and other things!

As always, Go Pods, and stay classy, King George VI!
