Trivia Recap – Game # 844 – February 5, 2025 – Corner Brewery (Ypsilanti, MI)

Somewhere Mickey Mouse is laughing at us. That annoying high-pitched “ha-ha” laugh we’ve all become familiar with after having watched a Disney short involving the inner workings of a Big-Ben style clock. Honestly that is the only Disney short I can sort of remember the “plot” from, though I can describe in detail way too many Looney Tunes shorts to count!

It was our first trivia outing since December where we walked away completely prizeless, and yes, we know all hot streaks have to end sometime! We finished with 100 points overall and in sixth place out of 15 teams at a hotly competitive spot known for its “megateams” when we only had four players, so as Mickey would say in an annoying falsetto to his friends Goofy and Donald Duck after losing a baseball game:

“You can’t win ’em all, ha ha!”

We only managed two points on mystery round about the popularity of Walt Disney World attractions. We mistakenly thought that EPCOT was too “intellectual” for the typical Disney visitor.

Another mystery round utterly killing us was about when certain things in the 2000s occurred. At least two of our players had the correct answers all written down nice and neatly on their paper, when suddenly – the person whom was the designated question submitter – decided that he didn’t want to submit answers because he was overwhelmed by all of the debate. So he gave the phone over to me at the last second when the host was calling for the answers, and so I put in MY answers (which were ALL wrong).

Has anyone made an animated Disney short about something like this? It would be a comedy of errors, for sure! Usually I’m decent at questions involving dates, but well, maybe the 2000s were too much of a microbrewed beer/karaoke/Ultimate Frisbee/pub trivia toward the end induced blur for me!

We finished in sixth overall with 100 points out of 15 teams at a hotly competitive trivia spot famous for its “megateams” (teams averaging more than 5-6 players each, up to 12). Stick your toes into the fire and occasionally they’ll get burnt!

Game One/ Round One

1 Music Origins – Reggae music originated in what country?

2 Quarterbacks – Among quarterbacks in the top ten in career touchdown passes in NFL history, who is the only one who played in the 1980s?

NERD POINT: Within 20, how many touchdown passes did this player throw (regular season)?

Missed the nerd point, got the points.)

3 Musical Films – Audio clip from a 2014 musical film remake of a 1982 film which was adapted from a Broadway play which was adapted from a comic. FB host clue.

4 Fashion – What fashion designer and businesswoman, who launched her namesake company focusing on stylish but affordable apparel in 1976, later became the first woman to be CEO of a Fortune 500 company?

We originally thought of the right woman, but through some strange magicks, thought of another woman fashion person known mainly for her jeans and casual wear, so…miss.

Mystery Round One

Disney World in Order

Place the following Walt Disney World theme parks in order according to the number of visitors they received in 2023, beginning with the most:

Animal Kingdom, EPCOT, Hollywood Studios, Magic Kingdom

Well, to be fair, the last time I visited WDW, three of those places hadn’t even existed yet (EPCOT was under construction). We correctly guessed the most popular one, missed the rest. Anyone else a fan of “put these things in order” mystery rounds?

6 Cities – The Indian city known as Bombay until 1995 is now known by what name?

7 Book Titles – According to the title of a 1943 novel by Betty Smith, what grows in Brooklyn?

8 Netflix – What organizing consultant and best selling author stars in the Netflix series partially titled “Tidying Up and Sparking Joy?” Yay Andrew you just became MVP for knowing this!

Mystery Round Two – Movie Thievery

Name the film based on an object that is stolen as part of its plot, one of its stars, and the year of release:

M1 Grays Sports Almanac, Michael J. Fox, 1989

2 The Moon, Steve Carell, 2010

M3 Royal jewels from the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Sandra Bullock, 2018

M4 Saddam Hussein’s gold, Ice Cube, 1999

Got all of these.

We were in ninth out of 15 teams with 42 points going into the final. Your Resume Sucks playing under some alias about Trump and Teenage Mutant Trivia Turtles were tied for third with 46, Don’t Forget to Strip Your Bartender was in second with 48 and My Type on Paypah was in first with 49.

Final Question Game One – 1970s Lyrics

I didn’t get this question in its entirety, but it was something about gving the first names mentioned in the Paul Simon song “Fifty Ways to Leave Your Lover.”

Got this, moved up to sixth. Other standings remained the same, except TMTT didn’t get this so no tie for third.

Game One/ Round Three

9 Reunions – In 2012, the Spice Girls performed in a special reunion in London as part of a ceremony for what event?

10 Birds – In 1914, the passenger species of what bird went extinct when its final member died at the Cincinnati Zoo?

11 Products – I didn’t get this question down entirely, but what company makes products called “Little Movers” “and “Little Snugglers” and “Overnites?”

12 Balls – From 1983-2021, Spalding provided the official balls for use in what major pro sports league?

Mystery Round Three

In the 2000s

Name the year of the 2000s in which any given event took place:

Choices: 2003, 2005, 2007, 2009

M1 The social media website Myspace is launched

M2 The Bitcoin network is created

M3 The iPhone is first released in the U.S.

M4 Benedict XVI succeeds John Paul II as Pope

If you read the intro, you already know how we did on this round!

13 Spices – Which of the following spices is generally considered to be LEAST expensive? Cardamom, saffron, turmeric, or vanilla?

14 TV Series – What CBS drama series, which aired from 2002-2009, stars Anthony LaPaglia, Poppy Montgomery and Marianne Jean-Baptiste and focused on the cases of a Missing Persons Unit of the FBI in New York City?

We “missed” this.

15 Remakes – What 2019 remake of a 1988 film is about a killer doll? Bonus, who performs the voice of the doll in the remake? Sorry, didn’t get this question down, so I’m going by memory here. Got the points, missed the bonus (we were too busy wracking our brains thinking of the actor’s name who played the original killer doll – it’s Brad Dourif, BTW)!

16 Video Games – The original 1994 arcade version of what video game features two playable characters who are women – Michelle Chang and Nina WIlliams? Andrew again for the hit here.

Mystery Round Four

Missed #4.

We were in seventh going into the final with 43 points. Live, Laugh, Ex lap w and 24 Hour Brunch were in first with 5, Beers for Queers were in second with 52 and My Type on Paypah was in third with 50.

We wagered zero on the category of “Stocks.” We knew that even if we knew it, our chances at a prize weren’t great. But we didn’t want to lose all of the points if we were wrong in a category we’re not strong in.

Final Question Game Two:

The companies that trade on the NYSE under the ticker symbols WU and MTN, and a company that trades under the NASDAQ under the ticker symbol RRGB are all headquartered in which U.S. state?

Final standings remained the same except YRS moved up to third and Beers for Queers missed this (or wagered zero). Yup looks like they wagered zero.

We’ll be taking a short hiatus from this place for trivia next week, but plan to be back on February 19th if I can hustle the playas.

As always, Go Pods and stay classy, Mickey Mouse! Actually, no…I don’t want Mickey to stay classy now that he’s in the public domain (me doing high pitched ha ha laugh).
