So far, we have gotten off to a better start in our trivial pursuits in 2025 than we did in 2024. But it’s still early, and it all comes down to perspective.

For instance, you could look at a first place win on your first trivia night of the calendar year to be a good thing. Having the host inform us that a couple of teams thought we were cheating – well, that casts a different light on things. No, we didn’t cheat, and no, we were not disqualified. But it left a bad taste in our mouths. I know how competitive some trivia players can get, and I know that can occasionally be chalked up to any number of things (mostly petty childish bullsh–).

I still can’t heap enough praise on my dear friend Kim for being the only person in the bar getting that final question correct! It’s just too bad that being accused of cheating put out that celebratory fire pretty quickly. I’m still really happy for her!

We haven’t been to that trivia spot since January 2, but it’s not because of this unpleasant incident. A new trivia season started up in a different trivia league, and we wanted to give that a go.

Since January 2, we’ve been to one My Trivia Live game at McShane’s Pub, and three Sporcle Events games (two at Corner Brewery, one at the YpsiAlehouse). We’ve won four first place prizes and one second place prize.

We have a new player named Andrew in our mix, and he’s been a great help! He also gets most of our dorky pop culture references and he is a game changer on questions that typically stump us.

As for our “plans,” we’ll play a couple of more games over the next couple of weeks at Corner, with a plan to revisit McShane’s Pub sometime after that. A never before visited trivia spot may occur on my upcoming birthday, which will be nice if weather allows. Last year, all trivia spots canceled their shows on my birthday because of the Super Bowl. 😔 🏈

When we return to McShane’s, I’ll be sure to talk to the host beforehand about when it’s OK for our players to take potty breaks!
