Here We Go With Our 2025 Trivial Pursuits!

We’ll be playing a Sporcle Events game this week for the first game of its new season beginning this week. It’s a good week to take a break from the unpleasantness we experienced at a My Trivia Live game last week. Having the host tell us a couple of teams supposedly thought we cheated when one of our players took a bathroom break – was not the way we hoped this game would end. I feel that we were unfairly called out for breaking a rule we weren’t even aware existed. We turned in our slip before he went to the loo.

if the host didn’t genuinely believe that we cheated, she should have shut that down with the teams complaining right then and there. I don’t feel it was necessary for her to bring it to our attention unless she DID think we cheated. It all smelled to me like stirring up gossip. As for that, I can’t abide it.

if our players are going to be called out for taking piss breaks at times that other players feel are inappropriate, then ALL of the players need to follow the same damn rules.

We’ll continue occasionally playing her shows at McShane’s, but for this week (and possibly the next), we may be taking a break.

As for the teams complaining, I have this to say – we’re NOT trying to spoil your little trivia party! We’re not trying to be top dogs for tournament contention, though if we made an earnest effort, I believe we could do it. For f—s sake…we’re playing under a completely different league number – for a place not even offering trivia anymore! How much less of a threat can we be? 🤔

We’ll be attempting to go out for trivia games at least once per week, though not the same place every time. There will be weeks with no trivia games at all, and maybe even weeks with (gasp) more than one game.

I have the key dates marked on my calendar, for My Trivia Live semis and finals (in case a new trivia spot should open up, or there is some opportunity to sit in with another team). I also have the Globe Games dates on my calendar, though we’ll be on vacation when those are happening. So unless others from my team step in to play, we won’t be bothering with them.

Can you even BELIEVE that? Me not revolving my vacation time around trivia tournament dates! 😂 Amateur hour! Seriously…my husband gets Juneteenth off as a paid holiday at work, and we booked a very hard to reserve cabin during that time.

Sure, we COULD try to drive nearly 300 miles to get home in time to play a Globe Game on Sunday. We’ve done crazy things like that before – like driving 600 miles from the far reaches of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula in 2012 to Dexter, MI for a semifinal game (we didn’t even qualify from that game). And also about the same miles from Staunton, VA to Ypsilanti, MI for a MTL game in 2017 (it wasn’t even a tournament game, we just didn’t want the only player we had available to play by himself). Uh, hard no to doing those things now!

Those days are behind us!

What am I most excited about for trivia in 2025? Having a new player in our mix!
