My trivia team Miskatonic University Fighting Cephalopods finally returned in earnest to playing live trivia games in 2024. By that I mean that we played for a full year for the first time since the 2020 pandemic.
We played a total of 51 trivia games in 2024. Those included 26 live Sporcle Events games at four different spots, five virtual Sporcle Events games and two Globe Games (cash prize games). We also played 15 My Trivia Live games in two different spots, two MTL semifinal games and one MTL finals.
As for a prize haul, we won a total of $410 in prize money, which includes a one-time $250 prize. Our luck hasn’t been great for winning trivia prizes in 2024 for sure, but we’re hoping that things improve in 2025!
We got off to a rough start in 2024, playing seven games at a local trivia spot (YpsiAlehouse) without winning any prizes. Then, we had a death in the family, which put regular trivia games on hold for a spell.

We had a brief semi-triumphant return at Original Gravity Brewing Co (pictured above), but that was just meant to be a summer fling, not a regular spot.
in June, we brought a borrowed player to a Sporcle Events “Globe Game” and finished fourth, just shy of the prize zone.
We tried making a go of things beginning in June at a My Trivia Live spot – Powell’s Pub – but it didn’t survive as a long term trivia spot. Still, the games we played there helped us qualify for a semifinal game, and ultimately our first MTL finals in five years, where we finished eighth out of 39 teams.
In September, we began playing MTL games at McShane’s Pub, enjoying a modest amount of success with occasional prize wins, including two first place prizes.
Recently, we competed in our second MTL semifinal of the year, but we didn’t manage to advance to finals. The next day, we played in our second Sporcle Events “Globe Game” of the year, finishing second with a $250 cash prize. We brought a brand new player into our mix, who proved to be an immense help! We’re going to make him a full-fledged team member! He’s on the younger side, so he’ll mainly help us in Sporcle Events games.
We plan to play at least once more before the end of 2024. Here’s hoping that we can enjoy a bit more success in our 2025 trivial pursuits!
