Trivia Recap – Game #835 – November 15, 2024 – Sporcle Events Virtual Game

We felt like staying in on a recent Friday night, and I left the evening’s activities up to my husband. And he said he wanted to do a virtual trivia game!

So we signed up for what is typically a competitive virtual trivia night with the Boston area host nicknamed “Epic.” We didn’t do so well in the regular rounds, but were actually saved by a final question – about sports (yes really)! This allowed us to move up to fourth!

Here were our questions:

Round One

1 Game Shows – What TV game show has an eight-letter name derived from the Old French meaning “divided game?” Miss.

2 1990s Music – In the 1990s, what singer released #1 albums titled Music Box, Daydream, and Butterfly?

3 Slogans – In 2020, what beverage company began using the slogan “Together Tastes Better?

4 Cities – Name one of the two most populous U.S. cities with names that include consecutive “T”s (T-T).

NERD POINT: Name both.

Missed both of these, though we did think of one correct one after we’d submitted our answer (facepalm)!

Mystery Round One

Answer the questions about various notable firsts.

M1. Which NBA franchise selected Patrick Ewing with the #1 overall pick in the 1985 Draft, the first of the lottery era?

M2. The first music video shown on MTV was for what song by the Buggles?

M3. What soul and R&B singer was the first woman inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame?

M4. Which U.S. president was the first to speak on television, doing so at the World’s Fair in New York City on the 150th anniversary of George Washington’s inauguration?

Missed #4, clearly inauguration years of presidents is a weak spot for us!

Round Two

5 Tennis – From 1993–2000, what American spent a total of 286 weeks as the #1 ranked men’s singles tennis player? Miss.

6 AUDIO) What artist is being discussed in the following interview? Audio clue about visual artist who likes for people to not know about them.

7 Math – What number to the sixth power equals 729?

8 Dolls – Babyland General is the fictional hospital in which what brand of dolls are “born,” complete with a birth certificate for each one?

Missed #3, we incorrectly guessed Honeymoon in Vegas.

Final Category – Sports Cities

There are five cities in the U.S. that were once home to teams in the NFL, NBA, MLB, and NHL at the same time, but are no longer. Name two of those five cities, all of which currently have at least two teams.

(Note: “Cities” in this context refers to the metro areas in which the teams play.)

Got this, moved up to fourth.

Virtual trivia games may become more frequent for us now that colder weather has begun. We’ll also still venture out for real live games because I can’t resist the real competition for prizes!

As always, Go Pods and stay classy Mariah Carey!
