It’s been a crazy time to try to get my trivia fix! Between a glorious few days I took off for a recent camping trip in northern MI, and my employer deciding that I needed to work seven consecutive days after having done that (I get it I’ll take my lumps…and I did ask for a yuge favor from my new boss when I begged off a Saturday shift to go to the recent My Trivia Live finals tournament)…

Hey, I still got my work done before leaving yesterday! But boy…I was pretty exhausted when I got home- after about an hour or so of unwinding with a little lunch and watching a really good series called Dark Winds on Netflix, I just felt like I wanted to flop a bit. So I went upstairs and took a glorious nap – and got to hear some heavy rain while doing so!

So yeah – when I FINALLY get a day off, I want to go out for a game! I’ll have at least a couple of others joining me besides my regular “pardner,” and hopefully, we’ll be able to play outdoors. If the beer lines are crazy like they have been when they host the game outdoors, I’m prepared! Pay for two rounds straight up at once, cash out – get more later if the lines die down. Sure, that means having to drink warm beer, but meh…beats waiting in a line so long that you can’t help your team with trivia answers!

During a recent “venue tournament” game a couple of people from my team were in a long line for beer after we’d agreed on a final question answer. What happened? The other two players at the table decided to put in a completely different answer while we were gone (which was wrong)! So yeah, I can honestly say the long lines can truly ruin your trivia game!

My trivia team is doing anything but being in any real kind of “contention” during this current season om either the Sporcle Events or MTL league. And that’s…OK! We’re not trying to be leaders at any bars, we’re not playing in any one place once a week, and we’re certainly not playing several nights a week! We’re just happy to be able to occasionally hook up with some friends and even happier when we can win a little prize money!

Speaking of prize money, I won a little prize money on a recent music bingo night! What’s “music bingo,” you ask? Well, it’s basically an excuse to tap squares on your phone for two hours in the hopes that you’ll get five consecutive squares!

While I much prefer the more skill based bar games rather than the random ones like these, it’s still a good little diversion. I’ve been using the handle “Fine Old Cannibal” for music bingo.

I also went out for a music trivia night about a month ago or so. It was fun, though the nearest decent spot to play is about a half hour away! My music trivia pardner Kim is gar better at this format than I am – I don’t tend to be much help unless it’s a random disco or 70s-80s music question. I sure do miss the “Face the Music” nights we used to play in the MTL league, but the nearest ones to hit up are in the Grand Rapids area.

A 2.5 hour drive one way for a trivia game? Nope!
