Sometimes I can be an impulsive/spontaneous person. Rewind to a recent Sunday afternoon when my husband and I were visiting a favorite neighborhood pub. I hear the 2009 song “Bulletproof” by the English synth pop duo LaRoux, which instantly reminded me of my niece, whom is 23 now, but was much, much younger when I heard her belting out that song like she owned it on a karaoke night. And I came to associate the song with her, since she was a fairly strong, athletic, confident, smart and adventurous young woman. Bulletproof, right?
So I decided to text her. She recently moved to Alaska with her fiance after graduating and receiving her masters degree. Please keep in mind that I don’t text her very regularly. I sent her a text when I knew that she was on her road trip to Alaska, but aside from that, we don’t have a whole lot of contact.
I basically just told her that I’d heard the song and that it reminded me of her. Then I went to use the bathroom, got back, checked my phone and saw that she’d actually called me. Yes, CALLED, an actual phone call from whatever generation person that she is…Gen Y? Z? That’s when I knew that it MUST be important if she actually called!
So I immediately called her back, and she informed me that she had gotten married over the weekend. Nothing huge, just a few friends and co-workers, no big shindig. Wow…just wow…happy for her!
Well, what can I say? Next time you’re thinking about contacting a loved one or friend out of the blue, just do it!! You never know what might happen as a result!
