Finding Players For Trivia Events On Summer Weekends Be Like…

We are a trivia team with “Cephalopods” in its name (Miskatonic University Cephalopods if you’re not into brevity). So it’s only natural that the process of finding players to help us when we have the chance to play in trivia tournaments figuratively involves the extension of tentacles, like an octopus. Sadly, this process isn’t always successful at finding victims – I mean “players” for us 😁🐙🦑

So far, my other two “regulars” are not available. One of them cannot play because it’s his wife’s birthday (pffft…as if that would keep ME from playing in a tournament lol), and the other “regular” will only play if his regular board game meetup is called off. If you think it’s silly how committed he is to board games, wait til you see how dedicated he is when the Michigan Renaissance Festival begins! I can’t even begin to count how many times I’ve had to sub him out for trivia events occurring during the festival!

Sadly, one of my trusty backup players, Archie, died in 2019. I still really miss him! He would always say that it was an “honor” to play with us, and he was over the moon when he helped us win a fourth place cash prize in 2018. He’d never played on a team that had won prize money previously. He didn’t even ask for a cut of the prize money, though I did use some of it to buy him a bottle of his favorite vodka (Sobieski, for inquiring minds).

I even reached out to a friend from high school and offered the fourth spot to her husband. Nope, they have an annual birthday celebration that day, too.

My other option was the sister-in-law and brother of one of my teammates, nope, they have a barbecue to attend.

So far, the only person I’ve asked who hasn’t declined is a friend from another team whom I’ve frequently played music related trivia and music bingo games in the past. If she ends up declining, I may just give up and play with a duo at semifinals! I’m even tempted to ask my mom and dad!

I totally get people having much more fun things to do on summer weekends. In fact, if this trivia tournament were scheduled a bit later in August, I wouldn’t be able to go, either!

Que Sera, sera…
