Answers are really in the comments now sorry for the delay..too much trivia in one day apparently! 😁!
Two of us topped off a trivia-filled afternoon Sunday evening with a…trivia game! In the afternoon game, we gave our best at a local cash tournament in the Sporcle Events league, finished fourth, just shy of the prize zone.
I guess news in the trivia world travels fast? Our host Stacy asked how we did in our afternoon game, and I stuck to the facts:
“Uh, we did OK, finished just shy of the prize zone.”
Later in the game, Stacy would say to me, “(name omitted) said your team finished just ahead of theirs.”
Well, yes, we did…
Fast forward to our evening game, we won a $20/second place on a tiebreaker. I have to admit – I LOVE trivia tiebreaker time! 😍 Unless the competing team cheats to get the answer (more about this in a bit).
Maybe I just love the suspense, the “do or die,” the “do or do not” of It all. Sure, you don’t win ’em all, but it’s still really, really fun!
I love that in this league, we have to answer tiebreakers right at the host stand in sterile “no possible cheating with phones” conditions. After being in a tiebreaker with a team a few weeks ago that I’m fairly CERTAIN used their phone to get their nearly perfect answer of the boiling point of platinum in degrees Fahrenheit – I love nothing more than a fair tiebreaker!
Nothing, and I do mean nothing – beats being in a tournament tiebreaker with several other teams for a third place cash prize nearly five years ago. I didn’t even KNOW the tiebreaker was for a cash prize! We had to give list price of some kind of new Harley Davidson cycle, my guess was closest without going over. I reasoned to myself that it must cost about the same as a decent used car.
My husband had already gone out to warm up the car, and I had to fetch him because they wanted to get a photo of us! Crazy times!
Here were the questions, which will be abbreviated since the questions are all read over the mic and not presented to players in any visual form:

We were in first with 63 points out of six teams. Our final question was about Star Trek:
In the hit 1994 Star Trek film Generations, what are Captain Kirk’s two last dying words as he dies a second time?
We incorrectly guessed “warp speed.” No teams got it correct. We were just foolish enough to wager a few points on it.
This put us in a tiebreaker with a lone player from One is the Loneliest Number for second place. Our question:
In what year was the toy store FAO Schwartz founded? My guess of 1870 was closer than the other person (do not know what they guessed). Answer was 1862.
We’ll be back next week, barring any complications. As always, Go Pods and stay classy, Jeff Bezos!
