Trivia Recap – Game #822 – May 23, 2024 – Original Gravity- Milan, MI (Sporcle Events Trivia Game)

Breaking into song during trivia games isn’t a completely unusual occurrence for my trivia team! Though we have long since stopped requiring singing auditions for coveted spots on our team, I mean…

HOW COULD WE NOT SING ALONG TO THE LOG SONG? 😃

I am not a religious person, and am not prone to praying for things – except during trivia games! In this case, I prayed that our question about animated TV would be one we’d know the answer to. No Rugrats questions, no Doug questions, no questions about that animated series about a pig or farm or whatever the Hell it was about…maybe we could fudge our way through a question about SpongeBob -and yes, we know we’re never going to get any questions about Archer except for that one special time that host asked one because we’d requested that category…(it was a thing one of the hosts did for virtual teams a while back)…

Was that last sentence too long? Apologies to all of you and all of my former English teachers and writing instructors!

When “the” question finally came up I got really excited with the anticipation- and when they mentioned the year 1991 I got a YUGE grin on my face…

YES! YES! They’re going to ask about THAT show! Oh what a great time that was for TV!

When they played the audio clue, my husband and I couldn’t stop ourselves from singing along to the song. If nothing else, we only made it easier for other teams to hear the song!

I’m really not sure how many teams got this one right. It was one of several Gen-X friendly questions, especially for three Gen-X players born in 1972 – and 1975.

Did I mention that my husband and I sang this song on the night we met? We were at a friend’s Halloween party in 1992, and we both went outside to track down one of my friends, who tends to wander off when she drinks.

Yes, I basically just described what I like to call a “triviagasm.” It’s that fever pitch moment in a trivia game when a player gets overly excited to be asked about a certain trivia topic they happen to really, really love. It could also manifest itself by a player doing an actual victory lap around the bar when they get a tough MLB final question correct. That happened with our team in 2015 at Johnny’s Grill! Also, there was a young boy outside in the Original Gravity beer garden who kept running laps between his table and the door during the game. Come on, kid! Share some of that limitless energy with the rest of us!

Other than that, we didn’t do so hot in the game! No prizes, the mystery rounds were not kind – and we knew a final question answer that we chose not to wager points on… (facepalm).

But, it was still a fun evening of trivia for the three of us! Again, the trivia festivities were held outdoors.

Here were the questions:

4 Measures – What SI derived unit of frequency was named for a German physicist, who was the first person to provide proof of the existence of electromagnetic waves?

Dave and I both wrote down the same guesses, I said mine was only a guess, he said “I’m sure of it, I’ve taught physics.” Full points then? 😁

Mystery Round One – “THEO” ology

Correct responses will contain the letters THEO, in order.M1 Catholic church in Rome built on the site of a former Roman temple

Only got one of these…boo!

We had 42 points going into the final, unsure what place. We wagered zero.

Final Question One – Retail Firsts

According to the Smithsonian, in 1974, at a supermarket in Troy, Ohio, what became the first item with a UPC code to be scanned at checkout? The event was largely ceremonial, and the item in question was chosen because there was some question about the workability of smaller UPC codes.

Game Two/Round Three

Only got one correct…those mystery rounds though 😐

M3 I did not get all of this…but the answer was Metra Prime Number

M4 Luxury sports car manufacturer whose DBS model has been driven by James Bond AND actor who has appeared in the films Apocalypse Now, Wall Street and Gettysburg

Final Question Game Two – Sports History

Dave said rather prophetically, “This will either be super easy or super hard.” The hardest part was deciding what to wager (we were wrong on this).

The Waterloo Hawks, who were active in the NBA from 1948-1951, are, to date, the only team in the four major pro sports leagues to have been based in which U.S. state?

Knew this..damn it! Oh well…

Unsure if we can get out for any trivia games next week. Maybe just music bingo if it isn’t canceled for Memorial Day. As always, Go Pods, and stay classy, Ren and Stimpy!
