The classic rock band Styx sang a song on their 1981 album Paradise Theater about how nothing ever goes as planned. I think the song was actually called “Nothing Ever Goes as Planned.” I listened to that album on cassette quite a lot on a road trip to Florida I took when I was 9 – and the album was hot on the charts. To this day I have the song “Too Much Time on my Hands” etched in cranial memory. Tommy Shaw took lead vocals on that one and not the more operaticly inclined Dennis De Young. You might also know Shaw sang lead on their 1979 single “Renegade.”
Kind of making me think of my trivia team right now and our “plans” to play Sunday trivia games as part of our attempt to remain in league contention. Temporarily, we’ll be playing mid-week trivia games rather than Sunday games, one of which will be… tonight!
I thought it was going to work so well – pick a day that I had at least three players available on most of the days, furthermore picking a spot that one of my players tends to hang out in fairly regularly. Ya know – schedule trivia around where your players like to hang out – rather than going to the effort of inviting them out to where YOU want to play! And also pick a spot within just a couple of miles for your players. I actually thought the plan was so brilliant that it just might work!
So what happened? The Detroit Lions decided to roar rather than be a butt of jokes for the umpteenth NFL season. And on what day were their championship games? You guessed it – Sunday, Sunday SUNDAY! Which sounds much better coming out of the mouth of a professional TV announcer!
if it sounds like I’m complaining, rest assured that I am not! I’m pleased to be part of the cheering squad bandwagon for the NFL team that happens to be located in the state that I live. Unlike those random folks in my state who cheer on the Bears (mainly in the southwest corner of Michigan) Packers or yes even the Steelers – the Lions’ home field is actually driving distance from my house! And it’s all so exciting – it’s historic, it”s stupendous and causing fans to make dangerous amounts of noise from their unabashed, unbridled excitement! Roar!
I just hope that the new Lions shirt I have on order arrives before Sunday, Sunday SUNDAY! Go Lions!
