I recently participated in a player survey administered by the Sporcle trivia league. I didn’t really say anything to rock the boat, gave my regular host a shout out (Emily F.) and said I was basically satisfied with things, including the digital answering system. Some players commented on the FB post that they think digital answering encourages cheating. I personally don’t want the digital answering system to go away, but that’s my opinion. I like not having players making mad dashes with points slips, and I’m pretty sure that the hosts probably like not having to deal with them, too.
NOBODY likes cheaters in trivia, do they?

What I WOULD add – if I could – is that I would like another trivia game to open in my area on Wednesdays. Wednesday is a common day for me to have off. I don’t want to feel like I have to bring 10 players to have a chance to win (like the regular players at Arbor Brewing Company Microbrewery in Ypsilanti), and I don’t want to sit in a dark basement with strobe lights (like at Keystone Bar/Arcade in Ypsilanti). I just want a chill, well-lit spot with a mix of smaller and larger teams – with enough of a challenge to make things interesting – and NOT be too far of a drive. I also don’t want to havd to arrive more than 45 minutes before game time, and i want mints on my pillow (jk). Also drinks that don’t cost too much! Am I going as far as saying I miss the Wednesday trivia nights at the Wurst Bar in the My Trivia Live league? My oh my, when they had “Whiskey Wednesday” specials, it was easy to have WAY too many whiskey/sodas, whiskey sours or whatever pleased ya involving whiskey! I was a “whiskey soda” gal since I’m sweet enough already and too sour to need sour mix!
Maybe, in some ways, I miss playing at Wurst (which no longer offers trivia)! Though we did have to stop playing there when one of my players started “requiring” that we drive him to every game if he was going to play with us. And I said “No” to that, and chose a place closer to home that he could bike to when he wanted to. Also, my husband and I could hold our own there as a duo pretty well on most nights, whereas we wouldn’t be able to do that as well at the more competitive Wurst Bar.
Side note, the Wurst Bar has been subdivided recently, with half of its square footage (give or take) being a marijuana dispensary. Anyone lacking in a place to buy weed in Ypsilanti? 🙂
When I stipulated that I wanted this player to provide his own transportation if he was going to play with us in last Saturday’s Globe Game in Canton, he didn’t respond back. Would we have gotten a few more points in the game had he been there with his knowledge of sports team moves? Probably! But…I don’t like having people sit in the back seat of my car, especially if they act like 8-year old kids! If I wanted kids in the back seat in my car, I would have had ’em! I also wanted to be free to go and do what we wanted after the game, and not immediately have to take him home.
I recently started adapting our trivia playing days more to this player! I found out he likes hanging out at a certain bar that happens to do trivia on Sunday afternoons. And since he’s usually there anyway, my husband and I can come out and join him on those days! Is he sometimes a bit deep in his drinks by the time we arrive? Uh…maybe! Vis a vis the recent “venue tournament.” Nobody’s perfect!
I may not want the guy in my car, but there are other sacrifices I’ll make when it comes to having trivia outings with friends!
