After several years of being nomadic, wayfaring, Gypsy trivia wanderers in the competitive trivia world, do we finally have a “home?” Well, it may not look like the “home” in this photo! But the Sporcle Live trivia league says our new “home bar” is the YpsiAlehouse in Ypsilanti, MI.
Our first “home bar” was Arbor Brewing/Corner Brewery beginning in 2012, and ending roughly in the fall of 2015. Though we have played there sporadically since then. I started losing too many players to jobs at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, and others who moved out of state. You can’t really compete at that bar without at least six warm bodies each week, unless you don’t mind sitting at a crappier table with fewer than that.
I don’t know if the YpsiAlehouse will be a permanent trivia “home” for our team. All I’m trying to do is make a run for bar supremacy this season, which will be winding down soon. Maybe get an image of a trophy on our team page? I haven’t really thought beyond this season.
It seems pointless, I know! But after being sidelined from pub trivia because of the global pandemic and various social phobias/hangups/anxieties exacerbated by that, it feels not unlike how a slumbering beast feels when it finally wakes up. Maybe kind of like our trivia team’s mascot Cthulhu? Or maybe like me being awoken on a day off today by leaf blowers and the landscaping crew? FOR THE SECOND DAY IN A ROW?
I guess I just want to see if our trivia team’s still got it! Only in-person games can really test our “moxie,” not virtual games where players can easily cheat! š
