My husband I have been engaged in a whirlwind of activity ever since he was relieved of his job of nearly 20 years. What to do about health care? Arrange to send back his equipment from work so that he can get his severance, finish his work since he’s not quite done and most importantly?

How can we hook him up with his own phone after he has turn in his iPhone his employer provided to him and even more importantly?

How can we save some money?

Well, after visiting an Xfinity office today, we took care of those last two problems! Our very hip representative hooked both of us with his and hers Motorola smart phones, which will be functional soon. I’ve already ordered two different colored covers so we know whose is whose!

That picture above, by the way, is of a line of people eager to get their new iPhone X at a shopping mall in Ann Arbor several years ago with some PhotoShop effects by my husband. I am not getting an iPhone, or anything particularly fancy, but it’s free!

It’s going to be an adjustment, for a variety of reasons, I’ve been very resistant to getting a smart phone. Trust me, I’ve heard it all! “When will you get a smart phone?” “Are you in a drug cartel and using a burner phone?” And, “Even my 80 year old mother has a smart phone.” Yeah, yeah, yeah…

In 2016, I bought a tablet which allowed for me to have some of the bells and whistles of a smart phone without the commitment or monthly bill. I still have it, and my husband uses it to submit answers in virtual trivia games, and I use it to take pictures when we’re on trips. I replaced it with a newer model in December, 2022 (I’m using it to write this blog). I’ll still use it for most internet stuff and use the phone for calls and texts, and to access the internet when I don’t have wifi. I like unplugging when I’m on vacation, damn it! Though it can be nice to check the weather, especially if we’re camping and trying to decide whether we need firewood!

Both of our phones have the protection plan, which is important – considering how much any phone I get seems to love swimming!
