I made a couple of stops on my way home from work today, both of which involved the search for…mead. Being that it’s New Year’s Eve – and also the eve of my sweetest’s birthday, I wanted to pick up “special” booze for the occasion. And to me? Mead is kind of special like that. Kind of like wine for people who don’t normally drink wine. One of my neighbors – Matt – makes mead and I had the privilege of trying some of it before. Without even exaggerating. I said it was good enough to be in Elrond’s private reserve!
My first stop in my quest for mead was Cultivate – a coffee/taphouse joint in Ypsilanti’s Depot Town. I was hoping they’d have bottles of Schramm’s mead for takeout sale, but nope…no such luck! I’d managed to score a bottle of Schramm’s mead at Cultivate a couple of years ago for our friend Sam, but it was not on stock today.
So I went across the street to the Ypsilanti Food Co-op, and found this:
