Ever wonder why you might remember having drawstrings on your hoods when you were a kid – but you don’t see them on kids’ clothing now? This is why…a 5-year-old girl named Nancy Sibley died in January, 1994 at Pittsfield Elementary in Ann Arbor, MI when the drawstring on her hood got caught on a slide and wound up hanging her. She died after spending a night on a respirator. Because of this tragedy, there are strict guidelines about drawstrings on kids’ clothing.
