Time Bandits director Terry Gilliam canceled plans to do a sequel to the 1981 fantasy film Time Bandits. Why? Because of tragedies befalling two of the film’s stars. David Rappaport (right) committed suicide in 1990, and his co-star Jack Purvis was gravely injured in a car repair accident in in 1991 – and was made a tetraplegic. Rappaport had reportedly suffered from depression before committing suicide, and even (reportedly) attempted suicide while filming a guest role in Star Trek: The Next Generation. Rappaport is not the only “small” actor to have committed suicide – Fantasy Island actor Herve Villaichaize committed suicide in 1993.
