A Eulogy for Archie Crawford… RIP

Editor’s note: This is a “WordPress” version of the “eulogy” I posted for Archie on Facebook today.

It’s hard to not get choked up today when remembering Archie W. Crawford – who sadly lost his battle with cancer Wednesday night. He was larger than life, made you feel like the only person in the room when you were talking to him, he bled maize and blue and he loved nothing more than a good time every single chance he could. He also loved “the beautiful game” and I like to say you haven’t LIVED until you’ve spent an entire day watching World Cup matches in the “group stage” with him!

Archie and Alex, who played on our trivia team several years ago. This is one of my favorite Archie pics – and I think it’s a great “caption contest” photo!

As for trivia, he backed up my trivia team more times than I can count – and each time he did, he said it was an “honor” to be asked to play with us. He was beyond ELATED in April, 2018 when he helped us win fourth place/$150. He had never before sat with a trivia team that won money in a tournament. He invited us to his house after the tournament to serve us some of his extra strong Moscow Mules (the power was out in Ypsilanti so he decided to play “bartender”). Instead of taking a cut of the prize money, was has happy to get a bottle of his favorite vodka for making the Moscow mules! Now I can’t even remember what brand it was (though I’ll likely know it when I see it at Kroger).

Archie, I want to believe you’re partying like the beer (probably a nice hoppy IPA) – never runs out at the “Great U of M Tailgate In the Sky.” A bit later, I’m going to listen to Jethro Tull’s Thick as a Brick album – and Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon as my own way of mourning this wonderful, wonderful man…RIP Archie! Catch you on the other side…

Here are a few more pics…
