I’ve decided that I’m only going to post the game recap from Saturday’s MTL semifinals here – and not on the Facebook trivia team page. I’ll still provide questions to a select few friends in the “Facebook” universe and let a few folks know how the game shook out. But otherwise, this blog site will be THE place to look for any updates about this exciting championship game! I’m actually looking forward to “just visiting” and not “having” to be there – and not “having” to answer the questions! It just works out well that the finals location is an easy/short drive from my house. Better than Woodhaven (grumble grumble)! If I never have to drive down to the “Downriver” area again it will be too soon!
Also, no photos! I’m not going to be wandering around the room taking photos! That will be MTL’s job. Besides, me going around taking pictures will negate my attempts to be “low profile” at this game. I’m going for this whole “fly on a wall” vibe (though I’m sure I’ll fail).
As much as I love trivia, I have to admit that sometimes trivia tournaments aren’t…that fun. There’s a lot on the line (street cred and possible prize money), a lot of pressure to be correct, so many other teams in the room to beat (some of whom you might loathe with a seething passion, LOL).
I’d be lying if I didn’t say that trivia tournaments kind of stress me out sometimes! Rewind about a year to the MTL finals – and I was actually considering subbing MYSELF out for the game! I really didn’t want to go. I haven’t had a team of my own at any MTL tournaments since then (though I have sat in with a couple of different teams).
Funny…one of my teammates mentioned MTL’s big cash prize this time around, and I pointed out:
“Yes, it’s a nice prize – but nobody wants to play every week at Powell’s or McShane’s.”
And that pretty stopped THAT conversation!
All of that said, be sure to check in with this blog site early Saturday evening/Sunday for updates! Sure, you might be one of the folks sitting in the room and hearing the questions (and agonizing over the answers and maybe just barely tolerating the group of people you’re seated with) – but it’s not the same as reading one of my stupid recaps of a trivia game, now is it? I guess y’all need something to read to help put you to sleep at night – or alleviate boredom when you’re sitting on the can! “Toilet reading,” indeed! Do people still play Angry Birds on the toilet? Do they still play that game at all?
It’s hard to tell when I’ll have the game recap done…either later Saturday afternoon – or early Sunday afternoon (I have to work Sunday morning).
Remember what Dweezil Zappa said in The Running Man:
