Jeez…you’d think some folks were MARRIED to beer! A local craft beer enthusiast board I follow on Facebook is losing their shit about news that sales of White Claw hard seltzer recently overtook sales of craft beer. You can read more about that story here.
Last year, I did my own blog about hard seltzer waters – including reviews – which you can read here.
I’ve certainly seen more lively debates on this beer discussion board, but some people are acting like they’re personally “offended” by this news. It’s no secret that some folks are suckers for fads. “Gluten free” is kind of a big deal right now (I say anyone claiming to be “gluten intolerant” show a doctor’s note showing you actually have celiac disease otherwise you’re just begging for attention). If you’re cutting back on gluten for other reasons, so be it! I say if it tastes good – and gets you buzzed? Drink it!
A comment I made on the board about a Michigan-based brewery – Perrin (in Grand Rapids) – making its own hard seltzer water (called Clear Coast) – seemed to shut up the “buy local and no macrobrews ever” camp! I haven’t tried it yet, but plan to try it soon (they have a watermelon lime flavor I’m curious about)…
I’ll let Faye Dunaway as Joan Crawford in Mommie Dearest pretend she’s a hard core Michigan beer enthusiast and do the rest of the talking…(if I dared share this meme on the discussion board they would certainly block me)!
