Of COURSE it feels strange to not be at the Sporcle Live state championships today! It’s the first time since 2013 we’ve been shut out of a Sporcle Live “finals” match. I feel slightly better knowing that there will be others taking notes at this thing, but it’s not the same as “being there.”

I’m just going to go out and say that I want More Beer Less Pants to do well – and also want the Moops to do well. MBLP hasn’t been at a Sporcle finals – as themselves – since, if memory serves, April, 2018 – so it’s more than high time for them to show the other teams why they need to “fear the beer.”  And…I guess I want Your Resume Sucks to do well, too! They are a team representing the Corner Brewery, which is the closest trivia spot to where I live – and they are longtime rivals of my team (and very good spirited ones, too). I wish them well!

As for us? Depending upon how the ongoing trivia “bidding war” between a couple of Cross Street bars in Ypsilanti shakes out? It could mean BIG changes ahead for the ‘Pods! We could very well begin playing MTL games again – if MTL’s attempts to reclaim Tower Inn on Wednesday nights are successful. My “rank and file” still seem only interested in just playing “regular” games when we want to – and not “having” to play at a certain place every week – and well, what kind of trivia cap’n would I be if I didn’t at least *attempt* to keep them happy?  I seem to be doing just fine at whetting my competitive “whistle” by sitting in with other teams at tournaments!

I do have to admit I was a bit weirded out  by having a bar owner attempt to “bribe” me and my team with free drinks in exchange for trying out their Geeks Who Drink nights which begins next week at Wurst. Does this mean my team has become “marketing tools?” No thanks! Are we “tools?” Occasionally! I’m not getting involved in those kinds of “games.” And a big fat no to playing a Geeks Who Drink show (been there, done it, didn’t like it).

Here’s hoping MTL can get their old trivia spot (Tower Inn) back – and that the host can move her loyal teams over to this spot on Wednesdays. And maybe even another team or two who may have gotten turned off by playing at Wurst in the past, say  – year and a half!

I have to get ready for my little road trip “Up North.” Just for the record, I fear NO beer! There are certain trivia question topics that strike fear in my heart (cough….Grammies), but I don’t fear ANY beer! Though I was a tad nervous having to play against certain teams in the semifinals last weekend 🙂
